Borderlands (1, 2, 3, The Pre-Sequel, TftB)

Is it worth setting sail to see how BL1 is? I ain't spending a single cent on anything with Bitchford's name on it.
Yes. Grab the deluxe enhanced or whatever the fuck edition, the one with a minimap, pick Roland or Mordy and have fun. You won't even have to worry about the game dipping to 14 fps anymore.

Not really, it's a good for the time game that doesn't have anything of substance when looking back at it.

Are any of the Borderlands games worth playing these days? I got 3 and the Tiny Tina Dragon's Keep one-shot game both for free as part of some deals a while back; either of them worth playing? I did give the Dragon's Keep one-shot a try; it seemed pretty fun.

No.

I actually liked BL3 but I got it for free as well. I always listen to podcasts when playing it so I have no idea how obnoxious the dialogue is because I never paid attention to it in the first place.

The only BL game I didn’t really care for was the Presequel, which felt like a half assed cash in due to the popularity of BL2.

3, for all intents and purposes, has fun (enough) gameplay and gives more movement options than Dragon's Keep so if you aren't paying too close attention to the story then it's passable, especially if you got it for free.

I'm wearing my sperg hat when I say that I still unironically love 2 and Tales, but I've found that any pre-3 games (excluding Tales, of course) can be hard to go back to play after someone's played 3 because of the mechanics that should've been included from the second game onwards. 2 also puts the story of Dragon's Keep into perspective so IF that's something you're interested in, it's worth checking out.

Gameplay-wise, though, just stick to 3

I actually played (and beat) BL2 a long time ago; it was... alright, only ever played the base game, though, no DLC. Part of the reason why I was curious about Dragon's Keep; it's got most of the gameplay of BL2, coupled with all of the Legendary (and higher) weapons, and even some new content like exclusive heads.

Never heard too much positivity about BL3, frankly; the story was the main issue, though I am willing to overlook it, if the gameplay is solid enough.

It’s easy to see where Eli Roth’s Borderlands first went wrong. For a summer blockbuster that boasts such a stacked cast, from the Oscar-winning Cate Blanchett to modern comedy icon Kevin Hart, it’s unbelievable how none of these big names have any chemistry together. Under some truly botched direction, everyone operates as if they’re in totally separate movies with different tones.
Speaking of miscasting, the biggest standout is Claptrap — the famous one-wheeled droid that arguably serves as the mascot of the Borderlands franchise. It was always unlikely that original Claptrap voice actor David Eddings would return for the Borderlands film adaptation. And, for the record, Jack Black has proven to be a more than capable voice actor with the Kung Fu Panda series under his belt, amongst others. In the case of Borderlands, though, it’s obvious that director Eli Roth has no idea how to utilize Black’s comedic timing, or even Claptrap as a character for that matter. Moreover, Roth’s screenplay, which is co-written by the mysterious pseudonym “Joe Crombie,” is just painfully unfunny. It doesn’t take long for Claptrap to become, frankly, the most annoying aspect of the film. Whenever Black does actually make Claptrap likable, Roth is there, ready to undercut the performance with another lame joke.

You need no further proof of Borderlands‘ haphazard production than Jamie Lee Curtis, who stumbles across her scenes as she spells out the plot with nonsensical exposition. It’s a miracle that more actors don’t look as genuinely lost as she does, given the cheap use of CGI.

My question, once again, why why did they make the two female leads so OLD? Is this the curse of removing apex predator Harvey Weinstein from the Hollywood ecosystem? The characters in the game are in the 20s/max low 30s and it completely unbelievable to see women that old bouncing around Pandora.

Not just the female leads. Roland is this giant hulking dude in the games that towers over everyone else, so naturally they cast a dude who's 5'8 to play him.

The story for Borderlands was always its weakest aspect so this isn't really surprising. Doubt it would have made it better but with Borderlands visual style an animated film may have been the way to go. This looks like when Japan tries to make a live action anime movie and slap bad wigs and Spirit of Halloween costumes on everyone.
