The rapidly rising rates of autism, heart disease, cancer and other diseases are all due to environmental factors and I see no reason why baldness should be any different. After all, the growth of hair depends on a healthy blood flow just like the growth of any other tissue in the body. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a strong link between heavy metal exposure and hair loss for that reason alone.
