If you're really done with someone but for some reason there has to exist a communication line, they can place their concerns in written format. I don't hear of Null picking up the phone to call Nick for an hour, just the other way around. The phone calls can serve only one purpose: to influence the thinking process of the listener. I don't know the content of the calls neither do I wish to know, but the fact that anyone would tolerate a hour of Nick on the phone shows the patience of a confessional priest, or a part of them is holding onto what they knew of a person in the hope that goodness is still alive or that they will turn a leaf.

What you are saying cuts both ways. It is obvious one of the things Nick is doing is trying to get Null to slip up. Specifically he wanted Null to say things that would harm the motion that KF/Null/Hardin has before the court.
