Congressmen who do not toe the party line, like the ones who ousted Kevin McCarthy. A slim majority means that it only takes a few members of the party to oppose a bill to lose their majority, thereby, the Republicans are forced to placate such members.

Kevin was ousted by the likes of Matt Gaetz and co. Being forced to placate to such members is a boon in my book.

A congressman may take an independent stance for bribes lobbying money or for ideological reasons. It doesn't matter which, the effect is still the same. I'm not saying a GOP majority is a good or bad thing. I'm saying that it will have a big effect on politics for the next couple of years, yet most people are only focusing on the presidential race.

The presidential race has a sizable effect on down ticket races. Must people tend to vote for one side or the other completely. Very few people actually vote for just the president or vote for one party for president and another for congress.

I'd guess there's leaks, because ask @Gehenna internal polls are 'internal' and those are supposed to be the real ones they go by. I think polls lead the votes more and more, if you feel someone is going to win by polls that generates more positive feelings which means more votes in the end.

They've mostly done away with 'straight ticket' voting, which I liked cause I don't know who most of those downvotes are. Lately the video voting machines don't even have a party so I don't vote on half of them or just pick the first one or random. Having a party allegiance vote to me was helpful.

Before Trump, the Republicans didn't do much to stop illegal aliens. But, Trump really did shut down the border during his first term and he will certainly do it again.

Neither Trump nor congressional Republicans will do everything they promise (no politician does). You're right, they will sell out on some issues, but they won't sell out on everything. What is significant is not that the GOP could control Congress and the White House, it's that they could control Congress and the White House along with a truly conservative Supreme Court.

Well that's not how it is in my state, unless they've changed something since 2022.

It's either up to the states or even the county usually on how the ballots are presented. I wish it was more uniform but that's how it is.

2000 - Bush wins, majority in both house and senate
2004 - Bush wins again, majority in both house and senate
2008 - Obama wins, majority in both house and senate
2012 - Obama wins again, loses house, but majority in the senate
2016 - Trump wins, majority in both house and senate
2020 - Biden takes office, majority in house, but not in senate

Very common trend for the president's party to pick up seats in both house and senate, usually with a majority of seats.
