Did YouTube finally kill adblocking apps like SmartTube? - Tons of unusual 403 / forbidden errors

I would like to see the heads explode in their boardroom when people figure out how to circumvent the injected ads they have planned.
If they really want to fuck them, keep track of the ads they're forcing down people's throats and then go fuck those companies up somehow, preferably legally by boycotting them or something but if they make people mad enough, they'll just DDoS them off the net and otherwise gay op them.

The most likely outcome might be Google forcing users to sign in before being able to view any videos...which might slowly open the way for competing platforms. I am not optimistic about a viable alternative to YouTube rising anytime soon in terms of its userbase, but YouTube has been rubbing a lot of people the wrong way for years in terms of how it treats both its users and creators.

As an aside, you would never know that the US has anything like antitrust laws on the books anymore with how selectively they are enforced as all of these tech companies have erected such huge barriers to entry for competing services.

Aren't they doing that already? I haven't been able to watch youtube videos from my browser without having to sign in for quite a while

Yeah, I can't view anything in my browser since that big update a few weeks ago. Ended up on FreeTube, which is also having issues lately, when it tries to open a new video, a ton of errors toast up and then the video players normally.

Browser seems to be in a weird spot atm.

It's DEFINITELY creeping in. I'm having to refresh videos or close/open my browser a lot more often to get rid of the ads.

ReVanced on phones still works great but the desktop experience is definitely being tampered with. I'm just hoping uBlock or other adblocking plugins don't succumb to the menace that is their new method of putting ads in videos.

Librewolf and Freetube are being fucked with, I cannot open anything on the former and the latter needs a fair amount of refreshing and I'm missing a lot of features like quality selections. Guess it's back to mpv+yt-dlp.

SmartTube was having issues with error 403 again yesterday. Could be my crappy internet though.

I've not seen this amount of fuckery from Google with third-party apps ever. Usually a problem like this happened about 4 or 5 times a year, but this is the 4th this has happened in the past couple months. Either they must be losing a lot of money to be doing this as much as they have been, or they really seethe at people bypassing them.

Corroborating that NewPipe is broken again as of August 4th 2024. NewPipe, BraveNewPipe, and Tubular are all forks of newpipe and none of them work. I'm stuck using ReVanced, which fuckin sucks. If I log into ReVanced with a youtube account will it at least remember where I was in a video if I close it and come back to it?

That's odd, because BraveNewPipe is working fine for me. Are you using a VPN? I've had issues where Youtube blocks you if you're using some server locations.

Newpipe is once again being blocked by YouTube, currently it can not play any videos or finished live streams, only currently broadcasting or active live streams are playable on the App.

The issue started as not playing age restricted videos but seems to have expanded. https://github.com/TeamNewPipe/NewPipe/issues/11382
I heard that both the NewPipe and Invidious teams are working on a big patch that will be released soon as it all seems to be related to the same 403 type error. They are still documenting the way that YouTube is enacting it.

Either Google shitifies the YouTube platform to the point that nobody wants to bother with it anymore as most people do not want to be logged in just to watch a quick video or Google is forced to accept the existence of third-party apps and websites that let people bypass its crap as the latter is barely a speck on the radar compared to the sea of normies who use vanilla YouTube. Either way, YouTube is not going to win long-term.

Youtube has broken yt-dlp on most VPN and VPS ip addresses. The noose is tightening.
It's still working for me on ProtonVPN.
I recently had my first experience with a screen asking me to sign in to prove I wasn't a bot when I tried viewing a video in Private Mode using Proton VPN. A refresh seemed to get rid of the login nag, but I suspect this may be something people see more of down the road and that refreshing eventually won't work.

If Trump actually wanted to get college-educated men to swing fully Republican this would literally be his best possible move.
Which is why H1-B reform will probably never happen. TID
H1B reform has been a talking point for almost 30 years now, give or take. The biggest issue is that Large Corporate America - Google Included - wants the cheap labor H1B provides and has enough influence to keep that pipeline flowing freely. The number of people quiet quitting and staying out of the workforce ever since covid also allows the companies to justify their claims of a talent shortage. Just like immigration reform, H1B/foreign worker reform is needed but will never happen in the current political environment.

The past couple days, when I try to load Youtube with UBlock enabled, after a few seconds I end up with insane lag and my whole Firefox window shits itself. It only happens probably 20% of the time but it's enough to be disruptive. Has anyone else been experiencing this or just me?

I have found that in the last version of Librewolf that I could get to install on my screwy system, "111.0-2", youtube doesn't ever notice the advertisement blocker. It worked so well, amidst some other sites that ceased functioning in 111.0-2 over time, I forgot youtube even had ads until I finally went back to regular firefox. So now I keep this crummy old browser installed exclusively to deal with youtube.
