The reason why I thought Taylor was just using TJ for clout and money was that I just could not fathom anyone standing that mess of a person without some ulterior motive. But as things went on I thought they were cute together. I'm disapointed it ended like this. But I don't know what else to expect from anyone adjacent to Sam Hyde at this point.

While I kind of agree that she's way above his league, at least that's my feeling as a dude, I'm not really drawn to this very cynical idea of women as ruthless money chasers. Certainly nothing about Taylor strikes me that way.

I think they were almost certainly affected by the setting in which they met. Imagine two awkward twenty-somethings meeting on a live-streamed reality show, sharing their first kiss under encouragement from TTS, while thousands of viewers cheer them on. The whole scenario has the whiff of a fairy tale romance, and I imagine TJ and Taylor were probably just as caught up in the narrative surrounding them as the viewers were.

But the reality of a relationship outside the show is obviously something else entirely, and it might just not have worked out. In fact, it's possible that the only reason they stuck together for even as long as they did was exactly that pressure of being known as the 'Fishtank sweethearts' by an entire community that was rooting for them and expecting them to stay a couple.

All speculation, of course, but really, we should treat Lovetank with some skepticism.

TJ was originally talking to this girl, fishtank happened. Taylor locked him in but horseface remained in the background. TJ is not a bold or daring guy and it's wrong to pretend like he could have cheated out of greed, rather: he was likely afraid to say no to horseface and let things with her progress further than he should have.

What normal good guys would have done is at some point tell horseface it's over or tell Taylor it's over but I cannot imagine TJ breaking up with someone. You can easily coward yourself into cheating.

As much as I think TJ is a dumb ass, I don't think he's THAT dumb and cowardly, it's giving him way too much grace in the situation. I'm sure Taylor knows him well enough at this point that she would look past her dumb boyfriend being too cowardly to simply reject someone else if that truly was the case. Why get up and move all the way back to Florida if it was just over her boyfriend being weak minded again? Her tweets seem to imply that he actually cheated on her and also lied about how involved he is with the other woman. To me it sounds like Taylor found actual evidence of cheating (sending nudes, sexting, plans to meet up or they already did meet up, etc).

Maybe TJ was trying to convince Taylor that he needed a roommate and that this woman was just a friend and nothing for Taylor to worry about, but Taylor instead found evidence that they are way more than just "friends". That's the only way I can make sense of what Taylor meant about TJ trying to get an appartment with the other woman.

Spineless guys like TJ cheat all the time, in fact, them being unassuming and awkward is part of how they get away with it for so long, because people assume they would never do such a thing.
