If anyone hasn't I highly recommend reading the late David Foster Wallace's essay about his time covering the AVN awards. That essay is from 1998, and it's nice to see that the AVNs are just as bleak, horrific, depressing, and trashy of a hellscape nightmare as they were back then. DFW does a great job portraying just how fucking sad and miserable these people are, it's the type of thing that makes you want to take a shower after reading it. And of fucking course it takes place in Las Vegas, the Florida of the west, one of the trashiest hellscapes in the US.
