Jim Sterling / James "Stephanie" Sterling / James Stanton/Sexton & in memoriam TotalBiscuit (John Bain) - One Gaming Lolcow Thread

I actually enjoyed Jim's Squirty Plays more than his weekly JQ content. Sure he was mostly playing absolute trash but he seemed to be having some fun laughing at how bad the games were. But that was also before he fully started hating video games and still had a sense of humor that wasn't just talking about his totally not a fetish.
Some of Jim's old Squirty Plays (and the series where he watched the shit Greenlight trailers) were genuinely some of the funniest videos I'd seen on the platform at the time and showed that he had a real flare for improv comedy at one point in his life. They weren't always winners, but you usually only had to wait a day or two for the next one.

This is why it's so funny that Jim reductively blames 'twansphobia' entirely for his sub count loss, without paying any mind to the more likely explanation (that being that he just stopped putting out entertaining content regularly). Did he ever offer an explanation for why he stopped all of his series apart from the Tranquisition, or is it simply a case of his troon-out killing his productivity and passion?

The Squirty Plays could be fun sometimes, but I tired of them quickly because (similar to the problems Retsupurae eventually ran into) there's only so many ways you can make fun of a poorly coded asset flip.
I agree but I don't think the problem is that the JQ can't succeed on modern YouTube, the problem is the JQ isnt the JQ anymore.
The JQ certainly could be successful on modern YouTube, especially with the following Jim already had, but Jim isn't willing to make the effort to make it great again. He's like a selfish child who only wants to do something if he gets to do it exactly how he wants, and throws a tantrum (i.e. calls everyone transphobes) when people suggest he should maybe try something else.
In his defense the Game Industry is still doing a lot of the shitty things he used to call them out for so theres a reason for his repetition.
The repetition isn't the issue as much as the fact that it's verbatim the same thing he says every single time and, as I say, he never offers a solution to what he's bitching about. You could literally copy-paste the script from one Jimquisition into another and I guarantee nobody would notice the difference.

There are plenty of other channels who also retread the same topics (Luke Stephens loves to shit on every live service flop, and rightly so) but they do it in between covering other stuff, and when they do come back to the topic it's to explore it from a new angle (discussing the seasonal updates in Suicide Squad, for example). Jim's modern content is so repetitive that there's no point watching even if you agree with him because you already know what he's going to say.
He might even be able to get away with the tranny costume if he just stops making it his whole personality. Jim was always wearing faggy costumes thats nothing new, its part of the JQ.
I agree, the visual element of the JQ has always been little more than window dressing. As long as he didn't harp on about trans rights in the script nobody cares what he wears to work because most of us played his videos in the background any way.

The problem is troons are physically incapable of not mentioning the trooning out because they only do it for attention.

Is Jim still doing that podcast with Laura K Buzz if it is that must be dragging it's self along with a death rattle
I had forgotten about the Podquisition, at some point he simply stopped posting upload announcements on his social media and it had left my mind. Its still soldiering on and has just had it's 500th episode two weeks ago. Its slop but well done for him for keeping the slop coming

Is Podquisition his only remaining podcast now? I know he had Boston's Favourite Son with Conrad and Jonathan, but the Soundcloud for it hasn't been updated in 2 months. I'm sure he had a third podcast at some point that was meant to be a Podtoid revival but maybe that is BFS.

New Jimquisition haven't watched it and don't really plan too.
I did watch it. Err, I don't remember anything about it beyond using an Dawn of the Dead line to frame his usual capitalism bad stick and just straight up admitting this was a last minute idea.

The podcast was ok when Gavin was on, but that years and years ago, before the HRT, before the troon times.
I did go back and listen to his debate with Digital Homicide again a couple of months ago. I remember it being much better at the time it happened, but retrospectively, it has not aged well.
At least the digital homicide guys are still a recognizable gender...

Appalling thumbnail as per usual, just an impenetrable mess of disconnected shit dotted around at random. Completely artless and incomprehensible and tells you less than nothing about the video.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if him consistently making thumbnails that resemble the immediate aftermath of an explosion at the clipart factory is a not insignificant factor in his atrophying views and subs. I seem to remember a time when this man understood branding to some degree- seems that part of him was removed along with his balls.

I don't have it in me to do a QRD this week, so instead I want to debate Jim's logic for the photo he uses in most of his thumbnails now. Even ignoring the gross troon shit, what is him holding a giant 90s toy spaceship supposed to communicate to me, as a potential viewer? What does it have to do with video games?

His wrestler mask photo isn't much better, but at least I could assume that's his character, like a PNG-tuber.

It's sad, I started listening to that when it first came out and there were some genuinely funny moments in those first 100 episodes. They did occasionally go on lefty tangents, but there was still a level of 'we're friends talking shit and having fun' to it that made it enjoyable, until it felt like Jim and Gavin were walking on eggshells to prevent offending Dale.

Jim quit Escapist ten years ago. It's weird comparing him then to now. He actually seemed to like what he did.

I feel the same about Podtoid. The premise of a video game podcast where Jim flat-out refused to talk about video games and deliberately steered the conversation in any other direction was absurdly amusing in a sector where every other game journo was so up their own ass, and it led to moments like this which are just good dumb fun:
It's weird comparing him then to now. He actually seemed to like what he did.
It is really quite sad seeing the misery he's permitted to seep into every facet of his life, despite claiming to be 'happier than ever'. You can't tell me the man in the clip above was more miserable than Current Year Jim.

You see that in a lot of other people. Take MovieBob, for example. He was always abrasive, but you could tell he had passion and he was having fun with his early content, even if objectively the quality was crap. But now the man is just... completely miserable. And if you ask him, he'll tell you he's happier than ever, if only these damn dastardly right-wingers would cease to exist already he'd be even happier.

I'm not so sure 'sad' is the right word, considering it is 100% self-inflicted. I appreciate that seeing wilful human degradation through means such as substance abuse can be hard to watch (and there's a fairly good case to be made that trooning out is mechanically very similar), but Jim is such an abrasive asshole and has had the means to fix his life for such a long time that I find it hard to muster any pity. He didn't so much 'make his bed' as he did grow the tree, cut it down, refine it into planks and build a king-size four poster out of it.

I won't celebrate his self-inflicted misery, but I won't lament it either.

BREAKING NEWS: Kiwi Farms Alumni Oliver Onions is told that Jim is totally happier now than before, and is now having to come to terms with the reality that people online can, in fact, lie.

I do get that, but I still think it's sad because there's obviously something wrong with Jim that he was able to be groomed into all this by bad actors in his life. Of course he still has accountability as a grown-ass man, but I dunno...I just can't help feeling sorry for people who are in a position to do basically whatever they want with their lives and they choose to be miserable, because it tells me there's something fundamentally broken inside them that no amount of money, fame or success can fix.

It's still entertaining to watch his career spiral, but it's a little bittersweet too imo.

I think feeling bad for these types of people is normal. I still feel sorry for people who are objectively somewhat shitty people. Jim isn't a bad person, he's a bad content creator. If you divorce Jim from the jimquisition then he's just a miserable cunt. He hasn't groomed anyone, he hasn't faked cancer, he hasn't abused a fundraiser or other donations, he hasn't done anything seriously wrong, as a person he is not irredeemable, his content might be but not his person. Yet he still got fucked over by his autism and a group of yesmen into fucking over his body. He's been sucked into a miserable echochamber that has tainted his personality and made him miserable as a person. I've seen it happen to people I know in real life. I met an autistic guy who was also into gaming and that sort of shit a while ago, over time I watched him go more and more into that degenerate goonhole shit that Jim did too, now he's taking estrogen and has a shit fetish. I'll still laugh at his professional downfall and take the piss out of his content, but if he quit the channel and deleted the patreon I wouldn't follow him after that to take the piss out of him further. I'm laughing at Jim Sterling the youtube channel and internet personality, not Jim sterling the person.

It's a bit like susan wojisksiizi recently, I'll celebrate the death of her career because she did a shit job, but I'm not going to celebrate the death of her as a person.

I'm not entirely unsympathetic to your mindset but as is so often said about addicts, admitting you have a problem is the first step towards recovery. Jim is the sort who is so deep in the cult that he'll be in a grand piano-sized casket in the ground long before he admits that it was anything less than literally every single other person in the world besides Jim Fucking Sterling Son who has a problem.

You could argue that him reaching that point is sad enough, but him and those like him are so far from admitting they have a problem, much less addressing it, that your pity is entirely wasted on them. Save it for those who can, want to and deserve to be helped.

"I'm a woman now", aight. "I wear a collar!", uhh.. "I'm gonna dress up as one does in wrestling, but my GENDER is NOT dressing up!".

Seen a surprising amount of troons in indie wrestling. It has to be a fetish about being clocked.
