Diseased Open Source Software Community - it's about ethics in Code of Conducts

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I hope Tim tells that community to get fucked and finds himself a better place to contribute. Python doesn't deserve him if they're gonna let those turds dump on him like that.

When they kick a coder out, he (and it's always a he, isn't it) should be able to take his code with him.

Don't want me? I'll be fucked if you'll be getting my code then. Code it yourself, losers.

Tim Peters, one of the most valued contributors to the Python programming language (you might know his name from Timsort, the standard Python sorting algorithm), has been suspended from the Python Software Foundation for enjoying the wrong old Saturday Night Live sketch

unlike a guy who makes 25-minute yt videos about a subject, i am capable of using google, so here for the record are the offending quotes... him supposedly defending reverse racism and gleefully bandying about the violent and unthinkably vile epithet sl*t

reverse racism
Can’t say I’ve paid it much attention in recent years. Last time I did, “all races can be prejudiced, but only whites can be racist” was the Correct View™.

...While it still largely makes good sense to me, I don’t want to see the PSF insisting that any other view can only be held in “bad faith”. Other views are common too. Among people of my age, very common. I can attest from personal experience that some people near my age never even heard of the view the PSF endorses

the s-slur
It was about kicking a package off of PyPI, because its docs repeatedly used a word that Dan Akroyd used to apply to Jane Curtin (brilliant comic actors from America’s “Saturday Night Live” TV show, but back in the days when it was genuinely funny).

careful readers may feel, based on this, that he didn't actually do the things that he was suspended for doing, but those careful readers probably also are chud incel gamergaters unhappy about haile bailey and elliot page being cast as the lead space marines in the upcoming warhammer 40k liveaction film

Unrelated to this, but I looked a little bit into the Lunduke guy and stumbled upon an accusation on how IBM/Red Hat have anti-white pledges and white racism, only to look into it and there being zero sorces on it except Lunduke's own journal, who in turn just says it was a "whistleblower" and no other kind of sources or verifying the authencity of the evidence he shows. Is this guy even trustworthy? He sounds like the InfoWars of FOSS.

To clarify, I dont doubt the existance of minority hires, but what he presents is so comically absurd that it belongs to a South Park episode.

I found this basically instantly when searching for it. It doesn't mention pledges but it's all about anti-white racism.

This was published a few weeks after Lunduke's article about Red Hat so he was probably tipped off on this.

Reading the actual complaint, this guy was a Senior Director at Red Hat with an exemplary record until Red Hat hired a pajeet in 2021 and started ramming DEI into everything. He talks about racial quotas, complaints from executives about too many whites and 2 weeks after announcing their "Bold DEI Goals", he was fired.

If you scroll all the way down to exhibit D, it's some internal Red Hat DEI strategy PowerPoint and that shit might as well be one giant "anti-white pledge". It's the most nauseating corporate anti white shit and the sort of hateful garbage that makes me hope its author gets gunned down by a nigger.

I found some shitty website that lets me see PACER data for free and the case is still ongoing, Red Hat is trying to force it into arbitration. https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/case/53453049/Wood_v_RED_HAT,_INC (archive)

What about a scenario where the once competent coder had a mental breakdown, put on a dress and decided that your project is heckin' bigoted and should not benefit from his contributions anymore? This is a can of worms that's too dangerous to open just for some hypothetical own.

You can do that, add it to the license and/or exercise the copyright to your code. Most people won't really accept the license in their projects for obvious reasons, I wouldn't, but you can do it.

This is not the same thing that Lunduke was talking about in his video and journal, completly different evidence presented. Here's the link to the absurd stuff https://conservativenerds.locals.co...leaks-internal-racist-anti-white-presentation

Again, I 100% believe that there's discriminatory hiring, but really insane evidence like this really needs to be sourced and verified, cause I could not find from where this came from.

What did Red Hat mean by this?

This guy's code probably has AIDS anyway. It's just that nobody has noticed it yet.

I’m also suspicious. This slide isn’t in Exhibit D of the suit against Red Hat by Wood, for those who didn’t look.

This is just too ragebaiting. Enough to glow. Bryan Lunduke is just some guy with a substack he calls the Lunduke Journal lmfao. He claims he received this from an anonymous, confidential source with nothing to back up that claim. I’m calling racebait.

Dont know why people are disliking you so hard, cause this is exactly what it looks like. Anyone can make a powerpoint presentation and then email Lunduke claiming to be an "IBM whistleblower".

Freedesktop banned another contributor, gnome developer Sebastian Wick (swick), seemingly for COCk violations.

/g/ post [ desuarchive ], Mastodon thread [ archive ], gitlab profile

Swick is generally known for threatening to NACK things while not having NACK permission, and generally stalling wayland-protocols merges. He is also behind the wayland color management protocol which seems to be required for proper HDR support (RIP?).

Some interesting things in the thread:
  1. Three members of the COC committee are also members of the X.Org board. This is important because you can appeal COC bans to the board (which is only eight people)

    COCK enforcers, Board of directors

  2. Presumably the usual power trip

The sources were multiple people emailing him anonymously. People don't want their careers ruined for posting these things under their real names. That isn't how tech employees, or most people in companies for that matter, respond to these openly bigoted messages from HR.

Crowdstrike has done the same thing. It's been a trend. The problem is those Indians in India aren't good at their jobs and cause a lot of headaches down the road but, with how US management operates, the technical debt and legal risk from vulnerable code isn't a factor in their budgeting.
This is also pretty relevant to current events.

This thread is nearly 6 years old. People have been warned about the dangers of the corporate infiltration known as CoCs for longer than that. At this point I cannot feign anger on behalf of swick. Swick deserves this. He knew what was going on. I don't know what he was thinking, maybe he thought it wouldn't happen to him, maybe he decided to cuck out to "play nice" with these tinpot dictators. But eventually the hammer falls and he's disposed of with a simple ban, like nothing ever happened. A permanent mark against him, right? He's now formally "problematic", oof.

You voted for this with your silence :smugchud:
