Oh so here's why Kumala hasn't given any policy proposals yet
I guess enough people are young enough now to not remember what price controls do, since the last time they were tried was by Jimmy Carter

Better not lose your government grocery ID card that only lets you buy groceries a single day of the week, or you won't be allowed to buy any at all smdh. Also enjoy your weekly purchases being capped at $100 which will buy enough food for about four days at current consumption. Oh well I guess a lot of FAT people will be losing a little weight out of it
What's up with liberals and price control bullshit. They will never do it. Never. It's just a puff piece bullshit.

You know what's up. American infrastructure was and has been in a dubious wobbling jenga tower state for so long that it was still a "platform" to campaign on (and swiftly forget about after) ever since even when I was a little bastard kid begging for pan pizza for dinner to eat while watching glorified toy commercial cartoons after. It's the one thing that a lot of asia can hold over our heads as a "Ha ha you so BACKWARD" point because even jank ass regions like the philippines have fairly crispy and new transportation infrastructure and a lot of places outside the third world it is not considered normal to have their local power grids shit and die whenever a brisk windy rainstorm hits.

We're in a patchwork brain drained society where an alarming amount of our system critical shit is also running on ancient backends that use windows 3.1/DOS/XP and purpose code specialty software where the original coder has to be rang up in the retirement villa if it ever starts acting up and not enough people think that is concerning.
It's the same in canada and I assume most of the western world, where infrastructure peaked in the 70's and has been left to rot since. Reminds me of the Strong men create good times etc quote. We have created a lot of weak men and the hard times are coming soon

Don't be so certain. Several cities in the the USA have had rent controls, such as San Francisco. The government controlled airline prices for decades. I wouldn't call that bluff.

The rent controlled real estate in NYC is a time bomb that's poised to fuck a number of regional banks. The left doesn't get how economies work.

Either way the faggot is hypocritical lil shit considering his wife had career
Or maybe you're a retard who can't understand how hypocrisy works. His wife had a career and kids, just like many other successful women. That's the part that really makes the childless women seethe about Vance's comments, examples like that undercut their dedicated careerism.

The entire "barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen" accusation is either bad faith distortion, or actual unironic stupidity. After seeing the Cat Ladies For Kamala t-shirts earlier in the thread, I can't rule out the latter and I'm starting to think it's the more honest explanation.

Thats not always true. Marathon Oil was the sick man of Marathon. Marathon Petroleum (refining) was where all the money was. What you’re right about is that all oil companies hate to invest in downstream maintenance. That’s why BP Texas City exploded. At least Marathon is less retarded than BP.

Exactly. The US hasn’t had a ground up new refinery built since 1977. Most of the grid is also decades old. It’s crazy what it takes to keep that stuff running.

I'll power level a bit. My first job was at BP Texas City and I was trying to get on the project that was in the trailer that got blown up when I was sent to Minnesota instead. As such, I know a bit about it.

It's true that that plant was in piss poor condition. I was a greenhorn and even I knew that place was fucked.

A lot of things went wrong, for example the Hi & HiHi level switches in the F-20 Blowdown stack had failed and thus didn't warn operations when it started to overflow with combustible liquid. There were also some other transmitters that were not calibrated correctly that should've also notified the control room that the unit was not operating correctly.

All that being said, there were human contributions to this as well. As operations was bringing the unit back up, they were operating off of two different procedures. One procedure was for what you do if the unit trips and another is when you're bringing her back up from a shutdown. Valves that should've been opened in the latter procedure weren't because some people were following the prior procedure. This is why you had the fluid in the F-20 to begin with.

Hell, nobody should've been meeting in a trailer that close to a unit that was coming online. There's always risks when you work in this industry, but a unit is especially dangerous when it is coming online or being taken offline.

It was a giant and completely preventable clusterfuck that never should've happened. Not only did they fail to do the proper maintenance they also had a piss poor safety culture.

I was there for about a year before I shipped off to Minnesota, but during that time I think there were 3 or 4 fatalities (this is prior to the explosion). I remember that there was one guy working in column that fell and his tie point was either inadequate or failed and he just ricocheted off the scaffolding for a hundred or so feet on his way to the ground.

Another couple of guys were breaking loose a valve on the (I think 600#) Steam Line. The problem was the valve above wasn't closed entirely and when they got to the last couple of bolts it sheered and cooked the guy below. I remember standing in my office watching Life Flight land in the field cattycorner to the admin building and seeing them wheel one of the survivors up to the chopper. It was 100 yrds out and the guy looked pink. I commented to my boss that he didn't look that bad when my boss, who knew his father, responded "He's black".

Hell, the night before I started, I remember watching the Ultracracker catch fire and burn. One of my first assignments was taking an old Kodak digitial camera (you know the type that took floppy discs) into the unit and photographing the damage.

That place was a hellhole and BP was an especially bad operator. Don't forget, it wasn't long after that they managed to abandon their crown jewel in the gulf, Thunderhorse, for a hurricane (that missed the rig) and it damned near capsized because they put "Fail Open" Valves on the ballast tanks and when the HPU bled down, the valves opened and their ballast water just started flowing throughout the system willy nilly.

Then you had the Transocean explosion a few years later.

I audited Atlantis's DCS (T-Horses baby sister) after Thunderhorse (got out of the refineries after TX City) and the way BP structured their bonus's was a large contributor to those last two incidents.

My understanding (I was a contractor) is that the PM's get a larger bonus based on whether or not they hit certain milestones. For Atlantis, they cut the steel for the hull in South Korea and then sent it over to Kiewit in Ingleside Texas for the integration. However, to get the rig onto the ship to haul it over, you need a semi functional ballast system, basic power generation etc. If you can get it on the boat, it doesn't matter if it's fucked.... the project leads get their bonus and presumably it'll get sorted state side. I suspect this is why there were F.O. valves on Thunderhorse.

Same with Transocean. The company man (BP's representative on the rig) would get a larger bonus if the well was completed on time and more if they pumped out the drilling mud. So he decided to overlook the failing B.O.P., the concerns about the condition of the wellhead that Halliburton had and pumped the mud (which was preventing the blow out) out of the well.

BP was an absolutely terrible operator.

Exactly. The US hasn’t had a ground up new refinery built since 1977. Most of the grid is also decades old. It’s crazy what it takes to keep that stuff running.

I don't know that you could build a new refinery today with all the red tape that comes with it. The big companies will keep expanding the capacity of their existing facilities but I don't think we'll ever see another green field refinery being built domestically.

is it to much to ask for ONE woman in Trump's SS to NOT be a complete fuck-up?
You would have to find a not fuck up woman who wants to be on the SS first, that sort of job seems to be one of those jobs that to be a woman and want it you have to be a fuck up in the first place.

That's the part that really makes the childless women seethe about Vance's comments, examples like that undercut their dedicated careerism.
To her point, childless white women are indeed a large voting demographic and the goal shouldn’t be to make them seethe but to entice them over to your side. There is room for him to refine his message, so it shares the same core idea and also entices childless women to the SAHM lifestyle.

You need women on your side to correct course with the birth rates. You can entice women over by having economic policies that make being a SAHM viable.

I am sure the yale educated brahmin from a long line of equally privileged brahmins, did the child rearing and not a rotation of childcare workers and nannies.

Bitch please not everyone make 6 figures as a corporate lawyer and can afford to bleed 10+ k per child per year for daycare only and has well off parents willing to help .

What you are going to tell me next firm handshake will get me a job at the factory that pays enough to support a family of four?!

I swear you faggots refuse to acknowledge not everyone are rich nor got their asses in Yale nor should be held to impossible standards. Even if this pajeeta is somehow superwife and mom doesn't mean we should all be or even able to be like her . The thing that turns off women from motherhood and marriage is that you faggots made standards impossibly high and if anything goes wrong the fault is placed on womans shoulders. And then you shit on them for refusing to play . Mind you these women are 50% and growing portion of women demographic and even me as taken woman with a kid vances remarks on women rub me the wrong way. I can't imagine how will go over with single moms, catladies etc.

Great way to piss off half of the population.

"Don't judge the situation based on a small sample size"

"ALL OF YOU ARE BAD"

In the same paragraph.

I wish that the GOP would say it better but "Two working adult households" being the norm has absolutely destroyed the American Family structure. Women aren't being told they can have Careers. Honestly women having Careers is fine, IDGAF what people do. However women are being told...they can have Careers..and a Husband who makes more than you, and two children..and have every single plastic piece of junk you want, and have infinite sick and vacation time.

I don't care if it pisses off half the population to tell them "No you can not have it all" for the first time in 50 years somebody has to tell them.

Why do you think JD is a woman hater? From what you’re saying a child tax credit would make your life easier to rear children.

Why would a sane woman support resentful gender studies lesbians? That is the childless cat lady, the out of touch activist that rode the coattails of DEI flooding into academia.

To her point, childless white women are indeed a large voting demographic and the goal shouldn’t be to make them seethe but to entice them over to your side.
The best way to do that is to change their childless status. Giggity.

More seriously, this is a topic that has been debated to death, here and elsewhere on the site, so I won't do the full writeup. I will say that everything "childless white women" have to identify with in the current culture goes against the conservative or right-wing platform. It's unrealistic to think Trump/Vance/GOP can change that with a slogan or platform message. It requires either a cultural shift for that demographic, or a generic unifying message that overcomes the zeitgeist, and believe it or not, that's what MAGA itself is supposed to be.

Bitch please not everyone make 6 figures as a corporate lawyer and can afford to bleed 10+ k per child per year for daycare only and has well off parents willing to help .

My mother managed to raise kids and have a career, and we were clipping coupons every week. It's not some herculean task that requires a trust fund and a fleet of servants, it just requires prioritizing kids over other things. I know things are more expensive now (thanks Biden), but the underlying mechanics of raising kids hasn't changed; only a segment of the population's willingness to do it.

Or maybe it's just too hard for you to handle. Sucks to suck, I guess.

The thing that turns off women from motherhood and marriage is that you faggots made standards impossibly high and if anything goes wrong the fault is placed on womans shoulders. And then you shit on them for refusing to play .

The man-hate thread is over there. Consider the woman-hate thread my response to your specific accusations here, please refute every point in there before replying.

The DMZ is filled with hatred for Vance, so I'd let sleeping dogs lie.
I am sure the yale educated brahmin from a long line of equally privileged brahmins, did the child rearing and not a rotation of childcare workers and nannies.
Vance is literally from a white trash background. As for the rest of your post, it seems to me that JD Vance is a popular figure who - in your mind - represents all your grievances with modern men. That's fine, but Vance is more nuanced of a person than that, so you sound a little whacky.

I was one of those kids who read encyclopedias and textbooks for fun, so dense is no problem for me.
I'm particularly interested in:
2) The start of or history of ... the federal reserve

Anything you can recommend is appreciated, I always felt like there's a lot of interesting history that's not discussed much but it probably pretty fun to learn about.
The Creature From Jekyll Island is one I usually hear recommended. Haven't read it myself, though, since I'm illiterate.
