Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
I like to vent on Emerald Rouge a bit. The 7 gym badge is as far as i have gotten. i keep making mistakes and having my best mons dying. i did however, Catch a Zapdos that made made me feel like a king for a bit. Then i ran into another legendary pokemon. guess which one? fucking Deoxys! I knew if a captured him, i would have cleared the game easy. Well, to fucking bad. Deoxys is ENRAGED and pokeballs did not work for some reason. Ends up losing at the 7 Gym AGAIN because fuck you. Whitney, Jasmine and Clair (all women) have been the bean of my existence every run.

Been completing quests and got alot of parts. build a daycare center where i can store pokemon i have caught in my runs. i made a plan by keeping a Venonat so can pick up later for its quiver dance. have a second slot and thinking of having a special attacker so i can baton pass the quiver dance. build a tm store so i can get some useful TM now like stealth rock and volt switch.

I have a good feeling of my next run. i can make it.

(PS, it didint go well and Venomoth can no longer learn Baton pass for some reason. Volt switch is too expensive atm.)

Well, I bit the bullet and went with the lv5 Dragon Rage strategy for Trainer Hill. Got a time to give me reward Pokemon in one try each and I got myself female Kanto starters and a Celebii. Decent natures too, I got a male Bulbasaur but then again I bred the shit out of it in the past, now I can get started with my new female Charmander and Squirtle.

Everything else should be smooth sailing, as far as catching every legendary and special Pokemon goes. I actually beat all the special trainers while grinding for Trainer Hill levels(every Pokemon should have the same level, it won't auto scale) so catching is all I have left before I move on to Fire Red. I will have to check if my romhack of choice works well with Trigger's PC, it's as invaluable of a tool as always.

We are approaching 6 months since PL: Z-A's reveal without a single droplet of news.

I wonder if they're actually sticking to that "we want to slow down" sentiment from the interview from a few months back? I know this kind of news drought also happened with PLA, but with that we at least got gameplay revealed in the first trailer and a synopsis of the game's setting, starters, and gameplay. We don't know anything about Z-A yet other than its setting in Lumiose City and sequel status to PLA. It's kind of impressive.

I won't lie, I'm glad that this is the case. It's staved off a lot of the retarded fake leaks (since absolutely nothing is believable, nobody even bothers speculating) and properly killed off discussion of a series that, frankly, doesn't deserve it in the modern day. SV ran out of stuff to talk about when Indigo Disk dropped nearly a year ago and even that was bereft of new shit to discuss by 2024. Given that the sales of the series have properly stagnated now--

(These are total sales for both games over their entire lifetimes. 10 million of SV's sales were within the first month; I think it's safe to say that the series has shrunken to its core fanatics and children exclusively at this point despite the sales records being broken.)

(Assuming that Statista is on the mark, the games haven't seen significant growth of any kind since December of 2022. The DLC barely did anything, and the games have only sold ~300k copies in the entire second quarter of 2024.)
--I think there might be a proper quiet period up ahead.
No fanfare from anywhere until gen 10, probably.

That'll of course be a disaster, so it will revive discussion briefly, but I think that's truly it for Pokémon's mainstream reputation. If it's been so tarnished that it can't even grow outside of its core consumerbase, it's going to take a good decade or more of nonstop hits to make its reputation somewhat respectable amongst normal people again. The series had lightning in a bottle twice (with the two Pokemanias) and kinda squandered it both times. Truly an impressive feat of incompetence.

On less of a doomer note, what would your dream Pokémon game be? Fan games and hacks are getting somewhat creative now (only took them about 10 years), with stuff like Emerald Rogue and Tectonic actually trying new things, so I'm curious.

been playing that TCG game on GBC quite a bit recently

(after many years of not)

sometimes it seems like that in-game coin is weighted 🤔
IIRC it actually is, you can manipulate it to some extent by playing/not playing flippy cards ti see what the face side the coin falls on and abuse the quick save feature to negate the card.

I have a feeling we'll get some sort of news at Worlds this weekend, it'd be weird if we didn't.

I'd love to see an officially-supported TCG simulator that can let me pick and choose one of the many Standard formats we've had over the years.

I have too many ideas. I've always wanted a Pokémon game with rubber banding so legendaries are hard to control but shitmons can be buffed if you use and care for them enough.

What Black/White was... a huge pokedex of NEW pokemon in a new region with no past mons piggy-backing it.

It should also go back to what made pokemon successful to begin with.... the feeling of being a kid training monsters that you personally like, going on adventures and training them the way YOU want to and giving them the moves that YOU think would be cool to give it. That feeling of "this is not just your team, but your best friends that you've made many memories with".

It should also include:
  • No HMs
  • trainer rematches
  • hard mode that is NOT tied to Nuzlocke bullshit
  • absolutely NO hidden stats (IV's)
  • at least one new type to make everything more balanced so that the other lesser used types can shine.
  • Online battles for that extra replayability

I'm hearing reports about scalpers being able to clean out the Pokémon Center at Worlds due to the staff (who are either volunteers or less-than-moral locals, take your pick) not caring about the purchase limits set on products.

I've also heard that a UK competitor was just arrested at the event for theft too. Here's the arrest record someone was able to get off of Honolulu PD's arrest logs.

Just when you thought Niantic was getting a little better, they decide to give everybody the middle finger just for trying to grind rocket fights.

Context:
So in Pokemon Go, you get to fight Team Rocket and their bosses for a shot at Shadow Pokemon. Shadow Pokemon take more damage, but hit harder than regular Pokemon. The catch is Shadow Pokemon have a shitty move called frustation, and you can only remove it during Team Rocket events. This weekend is a Team Rocket event where you'll see more Rockets in the game, but players trying to grind this event are getting banned just for grinding.
I will never understand why gaming companies keep on shooting themselves in the foot.

Niantic is pretty retarded

This one isn't their fault per se but their Monster Hunter app ended up running a MrBeast collab right as he was getting exposed for being a pedoshielder for people like Kris Tyson and "Delaware" on his team.

Not only is there "power creep" in the TCG, but it also seems that energy costs are cheaper with later cards. Like on the first Articuno card, "Freeze Dry" is 30, and uses 3 Water Energy. But on a more recent Articuno card, "Wild Freeze" is 70 and uses 2.

I just want remakes or remasters of the Gamecube titles, man. I know the odds are about the same to getting a Conquest sequel, but let me hope.

Celebrate Nite kinda dinged everything else that’d be a Must for a Dream Pokemon game. The formula is there, it’s just I don’t think Game Freak has anyone competent enough to follow it.

What's this?
Lol

I think they might have the people there. And up until now they ran the numbers and it came back with ‘not worth our time’

I think them slowing stuff down might in part be the data might have finally said ‘worth our time to do thing’

I managed to beat the game exactly once, on my first try, and then never again. I think flipping all the switches in the lobby after my victory to unlock everything probably made it harder. Fun little game.

A Pokemon Card GB2 sequel where all cards (except for maybe the Imakuni joke cards from the expansion sheets) from the original run and Neo series are playable.

@Anonitolia
Pokemon deserves coverage but I’d bet it’s being done because they don’t want everyone talking about every little detail and doing silly leaks. It’s a game like PLA, it’s not going to have DLC to keep it going. Once out it will be out.

You want to actually keep the hype until you are closer to release. Not a year out.

And the mainstream has always been like this with Pokemon. They’ll come back for the next game as they always do.

Sad they just had to fucking ruin the last region I actually enjoyed with their miserable modern bullshit before they croaked. Maybe if we're real lucky ZA will get canceled or something before the franchise goes into hibernation, but I really doubt that.
