He simply ruled that the omnibus pre-trial hearing was excluded based on court rules and that's the end of it.

There is no ruling on video or audio coverage of the actual trial and even if such were to occur, there is plenty of precedent how to handle minor testimony without blanket banning audio/video coverage.

After this hearing, if a trial takes place, a new request will be filed.

He has to be drug-free to see his kids. It's not clear if alcohol is part of the restriction. He's tried to get the alcohol ban lifted.

Ah, the cognitive dissonance when people come face to face with recovery culture for the first time.

From Rekieta's point of view, it would be perfectly reasonable for him to be allowed to continue to drink alcohol. Cocaine is illegal. Alcohol isn't. So from his POV, it'd seem totally logical that he would be allowed to drink.

But the problem isn't that Nick took cocaine. The problem is that because of his drug use patterns, Rekieta's house was raided and his children were found to be in need of the protection of the state. So now, if Nick wants his kids to live with the family, he gotta stop drinking. Not because alcohol is bad, but because Nick has already showed the world that he can't control his use. Heavy drinking causes abuse/neglect of children in the absence of other drugs, but it's also an enormous catalyst for relapse into illicit drug use. Nobody's giving Nick permission to drink again any time soon.

And he's gonna be struggling. It's hard for people who drink like Rekieta does.

It does seem like Nick is counting eggs before they hatch. Anything he can construe as a victory ends up being treated like a total win, but he still has to actually face his trial.
