In this day and age considering a severe diet plan is a valid short-term budgeting strategy.

This reads like stock advice I'd get from my great grandfather.

Invest in cheap mutual funds, and have more bond funds that total stock funds if you're worried about risk. Never invest in single sectors. Never invest in random shit anonymous people on the internet tell you about.

I don’t think people will easily forget their weekly groceries being between $85-$100, and that being considered “on a budget.” People don’t just forget inflation, and record levels of it are what make presidents unpopular. Jimmy Carter helped create record inflation and a gas crisis with his foreign and domestic policies, and it’s why he only served one term.

I'd say doubling is accurate. I eat a whole food diet so no doritos for me (as stated it's for health reasons so I'm very strict about it). Edit: I mention this because some people say it's cheap of you don't order Starbucks coffee or buy a bunch of cookies and coke - I don't. The food I buy should be cheap and yet...
Eggs went from going on sale for 80 cents to going on sale for 1.80 if you're lucky and commonly going for a dozen for 3-4$
Butter has also increased substantially, with 5-6 dollars a pound being standard now. Before at most it would be 4$
So not quite doubling there, but 4$ was what I'd consider expensive before...
Even the one packaged food I enjoy as a treat has increased in price 60%
There is no escape from it, and even buying absolutely everything on sale and exclusively shopping managers specials etc my weekly food costs have increased despite me dropping more and more treats or opting for ground beef or chicken over the occasional on sale steak I could sometimes afford before. It sucks.
