Here in Aus, you can take phones and laptops into court no problem. If youre caught recording thats something else. But i could literally live transcribe or hell, scroll insta on my phone if i wanted to.

The only reason you can’t record it is because the jury hasn’t been sworn in yet. They didn’t deny the concept of recording the actual trial.

Many court proceeding sin the U.S. do allow for phones and laptops with varying rules. Some allow them for electronic note taking and transcribing, but don’t allow for video or audio recording with them, some allow full broadcasting online, and some don’t, it’s always a case by case basis.

All that is known right now is that per MN law, the pre-jury court appearances can’t be broadcast outside of extreme circumstances and this was deemed to be not out of the ordinary. There’s also probably higher scrutiny after the last time the judge requested no broadcasting or recording despite those two random dudes live streaming it all over the internet
