Mom will spend the daylight hours on the main property under Nick's supervision and will be told she did the right thing for her family and mothers have to sacrifice blah blah blah. Nick will get a misdemeanor child endangerment while Kayla gets the felony.

Kayla is expected to enter a guilty plea. She is currently without legal representation, Nick and April have probably indicated to her that they too will plead guilty. Kayla will proceed with her plea, but there is a strong possibility that Nick and April may later retract their commitment to do the same. Even if they do follow through with their pleas, Nick is likely prepared to present evidence concerning Kayla's prescription and illegal drug use, which the State may already be aware of. Her plea will likely include a confession of her sole ownership of the cocaine.

Nick will have prepared documented substantial evidence of Kayla’s drug-related behavior, legal and illegal. In Minnesota, which is a one-party consent state, he could have recordings of their conversations or those with her family and possibly his own children regarding her mental state and drug use. Even worse, this evidence could potentially lead to the possibility of involuntary commitment.

Then, given Kayla's status as a convicted felon with documented drug issues, Nick will argue that he is the more suitable parent and seek custody of their children. He was the parent driving the kids to activities. In such a scenario, Kayla could lose custody, and Nick, April, and the children may relocate, potentially to a different state such as Florida or Texas. (Despite being on probation, relocation is feasible by filing a motion with the court.)
