yeah honestly it's gotten absurd, especially the last few years since the pandemic. no one makes content for the sake of content. everyone and their mother has their paypal/patreon/whatever and is shilling it nonstop. yeah phil is probably a lot more straightforward about his begging than most, but he's definitely not an anomaly in that regard.
This might be a cop-out, maybe I don't watch enough streamers on Twitch/Youtube or even enough videos in general, but most people don't beg just to beg. At least on Twitch, subbing removes ads. And on most Youtube channels, being a member gives you members-only content. Yeah there are definitely streamers who lean into the para-social nature of the streamer/watcher relationship, DSP definitely being one of the more pervasive ones, but even those typically are not asking for tips and superchats/cheers.
It's funny that the people who typically ask for direct contributions are the ones that give you the least, as in their content is just them yapping about stuff or reacting to other people's content.
Of the people I can think of who directly ask for tips, I can only think of streaming thots and lolcows like DSP, Kino Casino, etc.
I wish I could enjoy the ride before the inevitable fall but he's just so insufferable now I can't even hate watch him. I'll be watching old TIHYDPs from when he was entertaining until something funny happens.
Gotta say this too, Phil being the bitch he is, cannot lean fully into the fin dom/King bullshit. Like he's 66% in but then he'll give you the "tip because you like ree not because you want to own Tevin" and that sorta pussy talk. In typical Phil fashion, he can't fully own what he wants to be. Always straddling that fence.
The mask slipping more and more is the only funny thing now besides the cringe levels.
