Those types of houses aren't uncommon around here at least as i think it was a bit of a fad during the 1980s. There are very efficient when it comes to heating and cooling. Quite a few farms i've been to have been houses like that. Farmers are actually quite fast on uptake of new tech. The same house had solar panels in the mid 90s and a heat pump.

Being all one level with an entire acre of roof is the opposite of efficient. Buried wall kinda sorta helps if you pretend that high performance wall insulation doesn’t exist, and I suspect in that location it’s going to cause you problems in terms of damp penetration and even damage from frost heave. Not to mention the lack of windows.
