Gruffin dying really upset me, I only knew her from Exulansic's content but I grew up in New England and I was rooting for her to snap out of it.

Gruffin was living in Woonsocket which is not what you'd call the best part of RI. It makes sense that she mostly worked in retail, even with some kind of degree. There's almost no industry in RI anymore, most people leave young unless they're going into a family business. Stop & Shop is at least unionized it's a good job compared to some stores, which fire people after a couple years once they get expensive. CVS is headquartered in Woonsocket but if you can't get hired in a decent job there, that's not really the city you want to be in.

Gruffin started surgically transitioning during the pandemic and after the college she went to shut down. I can see why someone like Gruffin was rudderless and looking for a fantasy to latch onto. The pandemic; living in an area without tons of opportunity; not being a very pretty or outgoing girl. This was a way to get attention and go viral on TikTok.

Cults look for people like that. When I moved to NYC I was in the subway looking around a lot and these 2 Asian girls tried to recruit me into some weird goddess cult (which...gave them a bad phone number). At my first job there, some girl who I thought was trying to befriend me by inviting me somewhere brought me to a Landmark Forum thing instead. If you're at a transition point in life and seem lonely, there are people who will target you. If you're also depressed/don't have good self-esteem, you can get hooked instead of distancing yourself.

If Gruffin had a couple decent friends she saw a lot IRL and wasn't so online maybe she'd still be alive. I think the lockdowns isolated people like her even more and have a big role in all of this trans fuckery. During lockdown I took up smoking again, but quit once I had to work around people again (the smell). She didn't have anything to get back to, she just did ~3 years of harm to herself. Crazy.

The RI State Legislature reps for Woonsocket are Stephen Casey & Robert Phillips I'm thinking about writing to one or both of them and asking if they'll look into the doctors who did this to one of their constituents. My grandfather had fewer catheter/urinary issues post prostate cancer surgery than Gruffin did. They butchered this kid.

I also wonder who wrote that obituary, and thought it would be appropriate to refer to the pet lizard as the deceased person's "son". @Aunt Carol can answer this, as I was a biotech researcher, not a medfag, but considering what passes through something like this as well as the location of the stoma, how the hell are people with colostomy bags not getting chronic infections at the stoma site? You can sanitize the area with topical disinfectants, but it seems that will only do so much and that sepsis in the area would be inevitable.

Ideally, if the surgeon did a good job constructing the stoma and the patient does a good job fitting the appliance, you don't have meaningful leakage onto the skin/tissue around the stoma and so infection isn't a problem. Stoma output is mostly digestive juice, though, highly caustic. If the patient does fuck up, first they'll have a nasty skin rash around the stoma, and then that can lead to infection, necrosis, and other foul omens.

You can live with an ileostomy and lots of people do, especially a temporary one, but it is a constant source of stress and the maintenance is a tedious, disgusting chore. Even if he never falls victim to serious complications, please rest secure in the knowledge that Lissa is miserable.
