Not that long ago, I want to say maybe 2017, entire suburb towns of Detroit had their water turned off.

The reason was that all the houses there have lead service lines. Now that’s actually not a big deal in itself, and is true of many other places. But someone in charge in the city had decided to stop the expensive water treatment process which corrects the Ph of the water and just pull it straight from the Michigan river instead. Saving huge sums.

This immediately started to dissolve the pipes (both lead and steel) from the inside, resulting in various colors of tap water which were utterly deadly to drink.

So then there was no choice but to dig up every single service line and replace it, for which there was also no money.

It being national news and an example of governmental failure, Elon Musk of course had to pipe up and say he was personally going to fix the issue himself (he didn’t).

I wonder if Nick regrets spending six figures on a high powered lawyer instead of going 'oops, sorry, shouldn't have said that while drunk' when now he's gotta pay a much shittier lawyer to defend his ass from coke and child endangerment.

I still think this is all theatrics before he settles, but all that money getting flushed down the toilet probably hurts right now.

One thing I'd love is if a lawyer Kiwi would go back over some of Nick's lawyer's previous filings just to see if they're as bad as this latest one. If they're not, then it'd be one more data point to indicate that maybe, JUST MAYBE, the actual practicing lawyer in this situation didn't actually write (either partially or fully) the filing... (either that or the lawyer just threw it together haphazardly in order to shut Nick up...)
