Furry Fandom and Drama General

I'm just guessing, but it could be possible they're just re-checking everything to make absolutely sure the site is safe to re-open. That, or they're trying to figure out exactly how it happened etc. so they can put safeguards in place, and their hands are full enough without people using the site. I know very little about server management, though.

Pretty much.

Also heard second-hand that they're also "sweeping the site for malware" because script kiddy said he put a few in. Can't say how probable that is though, with only DNS control at best, and no sign of having any admin access.

furaffinity.net still redirects to the Animal Control board, but I think the news has spread far enough or simply enough of fa's userbase has fallen for it that the numbers coming to kf have started to wane.

So were any of the furries from FA even curious enough to start reading any of the threads, or did they just abandon ship as soon as they figured out where they were? I understand there's probably not much of a way of telling that, apart from posts from new accounts.

The DNP accounts fly under the radar because FA changed their policy a few years back on art theft, so now the artist themselves have to report the posts. A lot of those accounts rip from artists who don't use FA to begin with, I've tried reporting a few in the past and have gotten the same canned response that the original artist has to be the one to report it.

Claims of the site hosting and distributing CP is a more serious and federal issue, which is why I'm asking why someone is making those claims without having reported the site for it if it's true.
I can agree. I once reported a reposter account, bu the trouble ticket I got essentially said 'bruh youre on your own'.

In one of the Discord logs reposted here, Sciggles mentioned one thing about Dragoneer that worried me:
He would rather go into debt or go without rather than let FA close.
That may sound valiant at first glance, but, seeing all of the debt showed that Dragoneer's 'go into debt' option was obviously detrimental. Also, I wonder what Sciggles meant by 'go without', assuming that she was not lying.

unrelated but i specifically hate protogens. i fucking hate those things. 80% of people that have one of those as an oc or fursona are cringe incarnate or just... i dont like them.
That is because nearly all of them are early teens (basically children) who got recruited into the furry fandom by furries on ROBLOX. Or in other words: Groomed by furries that get off to making children into furries. When you see a protogen fursona online it will nearly always belong to this particular demographic. Whoever popularized protogens to kids on ROBLOX should honestly be brought to face their actions. Same for whoever popularized furry transformation porn and BLACKED raceplay there. But of course it all gets swept under the rug instead. :(

They know that their reputation before this incident was iffy. It was clear that even Dragoneer's passing strained many people's opinions, and now a very public, very embarrassing security fuck-up? I think you are right, if they have any sense they will be covering all their bases, AND being very public about covering their bases, AND finding a PR spin on this. I do not believe they can afford to handle the re-open poorly.

At first, I was confused, like what the hell is he going on about, especially the way he worded it. He's making it out to seem like it's this profound realisation, but it's a given. If you like something/associate with something (fox) and someone speaks negatively about said something (hunting foxes) of course you're going to feel bad. What infuriates me is their lax use of PTSD, were they actually hunted? No, then fuck off, PTSD is waking up in a cold sweat and having nightmares about your abusive acholic father. These people talk about trauma and ptsd as if they've been in the trenches

Roblox is honestly a blight on society, didn't the creators make a program that made kids on their platform essentially unpaid interns?

He is UK based aswell so if seeing what the Toffs actually do didn't put him off those hunts, he lacks empathy anyway. No surprise the peado furry lacks empathy for others.

Regarding the scraps: Any accounts we do find are immediately reported to FurAffinity. We don't sit on it. What I meant was that FurAffinity is aware of that exploitation of their services. They refuse to fix it. It would be simple to add another category to the front page of scraps so that anyone can stumble upon that CSEM and report it sooner, breaking down these clearnet CSEM distribution rings. DeviantART struggles with this issue as well. Any user can create a new account, upload art to the scraps first, and never be discovered by the average user unless the average user randomly guesses the username by typing it into the /user/#### url. Scrap images do not make it to the front page. They cannot be found via search unless the scrap has a word in the title, hash, keyword, or description that is being searched. A photo's hash can be used to auto-identify already-existing uploaded images of CSEM on FurAffinity. It's not usable if the image has been edited by even one pixel, which is what some accounts have done to avoid detection. Majority of these accounts do not result in criminal charges for various reasons. I hope this clears any misconceptions.

Also pinned on their website under the continued e-begging (A)

Yesterday, after meeting for several hours with Network Solutions (our domain registrar), they finally agreed to our demands to lock our account and revert changes made to our domain name’s NAMESERVER configuration. This lock also prevents anyone from signing in and making further changes. A fraud investigation has been launched on their part, and upon conclusion, our account will be fully released to us and we will receive more information on how this hijacking occurred. Our domain is directing traffic correctly.

While the bad actor was in control of our domain between Tuesday, August 20th at 12:47AM ET and Wednesday, August 21st at 2:28PM ET, they redirected our traffic to other websites and they set up an email server to receive any emails that were sent to any of our @furaffinity.net accounts. If you sent any emails to our @furaffinity.net accounts during that time, then the bad actor has those emails, we did not receive them, and you should act appropriately to secure and protect your information. Furthermore, any emails sent from @furaffinity.net during that time would have been sent by the bad actor and should not be trusted. The bad actor never had access to our actual email accounts, any previous emails, nor data we have previously received.

It is important to stress that the Fur Affinity web server itself was never compromised, and the bad actor never had access to any private information therein such as our user and server data (It's as if someone stole your home address and had your mail and visitors routed somewhere else. Your house and everything inside is fine, only the address and incoming/outgoing mail were affected). As a precautionary measure during the incident, we invalidated all current login sessions and you will need to log back into your account.

Furthermore, as of last night (August 21st at 9:53PM ET), we have regained access to our Twitter account, and with the help of Whanos (@KernelJunkie), reclaimed our username (@FurAffinity). And as of this morning (August 22nd at 10:45AM ET), we also secured Dragoneer's personal Twitter account.

We have also been made aware of various sources claiming to have identified the bad actor responsible for this attack. We have no way to verify that these accusations are accurate, but will continue to share all information with the FBI. With that said, we want to remind everyone that we have a zero-tolerance policy toward harassment, no matter the circumstances. Recently, there have been instances where speculation has led to individuals being harassed, even if they have no proven connection to the incident.

It is important to note that Fur Affinity, with direct insight into the situation, has not conducted its own investigation. We are leaving that responsibility to law enforcement. Speculation only spreads misinformation and causes harm, so please be cautious about what you share or believe online.

We kindly urge everyone to avoid engaging in further speculation or harassment. It is the role of law enforcement to determine the facts and make decisions, not ours.

Finally, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to all of you for your unwavering support during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness, patience, and understanding have meant the world to us as we've navigated these challenges together. We are committed to continuing to foster a creative and welcoming environment for all, and it is your strength and solidarity that make our community truly special. Thank you for standing with us.

"but will continue to share all information with the FBI." I am sure the FBI has assigned their best intern to move this from the inbox to the trash.
