There’s something IN that flesh that the brain has mapped out as leg, not simply ‘signals that come down this pipe are leg because that pipe goes to leg.’
Is that right? The flesh has been expanded from the thigh and totally severed and sewed onto the crotch, or is there a pedicle-and-shuffle-it-over while attached by a bit?
I think you might know this already, but this is a really interesting thing that happens when body parts are amputated, covered in VS Ramachandran's 'Phantoms in the Brain'.
He says there's a sort of 'homunculus' in the brain where each part of the brain is mapped on to parts of the body. If signals stop coming in from a part of the body, e.g. an amputated limb, eventually the neighbouring areas on the 'homunculus' (not necessarily adjacent areas on the body) spread into that one, so that the person might, for example, feel a cotton bud being stroked on their face and on their phantom limb simultaneously.
No idea if that's what is happening in this case though or if it's all bollocks.
On a totally different topic, re. catcalling/harassment of young women. It started for me around age 9 and got steadily worse, probably at its absolute nadir between ages 11 to 15. In my first year at secondary school, aged 11, I had two different men get their cocks out and masturbate at me in public, and too many comments, shouts, wolf whistles, leers, etc. to count.
This is nothing to do with anything that I did or didn't do - I was a child walking to and from the school bus stop, mostly. It's only started to get a bit less now that I'm in my 40s. To blame women for this or to suggest that it's invented or exaggerated by feminists is ridiculous.
Obviously none of that is a reason to mutilate and destroy your body for the fun and profit of surgeons, but it definitely contributed to a whole load of shit that i, and pretty much all the other women I know, went through.
