When the history of the American Empire is written, an awful lot of ink is going to be shed psychoanalyzing the American elite's willingness to be led around by the nose by various "allies."
My personal take: your typical DC-dweller has a masochistic obsession with being subservient to various super-national organizations, rooted in the fact that their whole lives have been defined by service to various smaller institutions. In its larval form, the DC-dweller is subservient to their university, as a student ("Please write me a recommendation, Professor!"). This cycle is repeated until the DC-dweller reaches a terminal office, and the only institutions left to simp for are NATO, the UN, or the WEF.
