Kamala's speech was just absolutely forgettable and as boring as the obvious AstroTurf she is. Waltz is an awful candidate and his skeletons will haunt her.
I think the election is going to go either one of 2 ways Landslide like in 2016 or 2020. I think it is more 2016, I think there is some Dem influence on fudging the polls. I also think NJ will flip which will actually take a lot of the importance of PA.

Rural areas had dialup by the time Dreamcast rolled around in 1999. Though they usually just had only number to dial up to, unlike the cities which would have several, so you could try a few for a better connection.

Welcome to a very fabulous special post-convention episode of Whitepill Weekend! I'm your host and your very own Handicapper General, Diana Moon Glampers.
This week, we're not going to talk too much about the details of the convention. We don't need to! You saw how bad it went...they couldn't get a special guest even though they were obviously trying hard, Kamala's sister was a better speaker than she was, a bald woman told us we'd best respect the HBIC by pronouncing her name right, and the only thing anyone agreed on was abortion. We were all here in the thread live and we saw the total vacuousness, the lack of any cohesive message besides Orange Man Bad, a record they have been playing so long it's crackling and worn.
Before we get into the details of what's going on with the campaign this week, I need to tell a short personal anecdote. In 2016, through a series of mishaps involving a cell phone number mixup in a database, I began receiving campaign SMS spam for three different people who not only had previously voted Democrat, but had previously donated to Democrats. One of these also apparently donated to Jon Tester in Montana, whose campaign texts I also receive, while another is a Texas Democrat, and another has voted in Washington. I know the people's first names (because that's who the texts are sent to) but not much else about them.
At the same time, someone signed me up for Trump campaign emails and donations.
I suppose I could have texted STOP to unsubscribe, but...I didn't. Not for the Dem stuff, not for the Trump stuff. I just let it keep hitting. 99% of the time, I ignore it, the way I'd ignore any solicitation for donations or sale of a product I didn't care to buy.
During this election cycle, due to excessive autism, I have noticed some patterns in what I am seeing. Since (unlike the DNC, which we all watched unfold from here) this is not something all Farmers have access to, I'd like to focus there today. All quoted texts are published verbatim, including capitalization, but will not include any information about the original intended recipients (all "Dear ____" or indicators about where they live beyond the state level will be removed).
Before the June 27 debate, the tone was mostly trying to suss out if Biden was a viable candidate, and texts were happening once a week, if that:
Between the debate and Biden's dropout announcement, the tone changes immediately. Suddenly, they're coming multiple times a day, and they look like this:
They also started advertising huge donor matches. For those who don't know, this means that if you donate $1, some rich guy (who was already going to give the maximum to the Dems this year) will say he's putting in his donation as a match to yours at a 1:1 or even 2 or 3:1 ratio. I did not receive "donor match" texts before the debate. The ratios in the post-debate, pre-dropout phase looked like this.
By the week before the dropout, match percentages were insane:
Three days before the dropout, the night Trump accepted the nomination, five days after Butler, it was just sad, and notably simply stopped including anything about Biden at all.
Two days before the dropout, everything was polling:
Biden dropped out of the race on July 21. By July 23, the tone was newly hopeful, with a touch of outrage that anyone might not approve.
By now, the spam was coming faster than ever, with half a dozen or more messages per day coming in.
On August 6, Walz was selected as the VP pick. By now, the tone was brand new. Instead of desperation, the new tone was designed to project total confidence...but the donation matches are still there, at astronomical levels.
During the convention, the texts had a theme. Just like "weird" or "joy" before, "ready for Harris" is the theme of the donation pleas during the convention.
I'll let you be the judge of what the Democrats really think of Harris, based on these. Note the lack of anything about her ideas. There's nothing here but that we're "ready."
There was also a long one...see how it doesn't actually talk about Harris...at all.
As Kamala prepared to take the stage, the messages were coming in multiple times every hour, with increasing match offers.
During and after her speech, absolutely nothing. Silence since then. Blissful, phone "ding" free silence.

All of this is to say:
Kamala's speeches are being met with the same kind of desperate donation matching as the worst, most dire moments of the Biden campaign.
That's the way they treated Biden's debate performance...silence for days afterward, after solicitations leading up to it. They know asking for money after that ending of the speech was not going to work. They needed to collect first, before the speech.
When the speaker is Barack Obama, they collect donations during and after the speech. But with Harris, they know that they'd better get the cash upfront.
Don't forget how much uncertainty there was about her candidacy beforehand. That uncertainty hasn't gone anywhere, in spite of efforts to pretend otherwise.
Underneath all the bluster and rose-tinted lenses propping up her substance-free campaign, is a party that is using as many tricks as possible to make it look like their donation picture is better than actually is. These kinds of mega-matches also should make any reasonable Democrat realize that the corporate megadonors have vastly eclipsed any kind of grassroots donations from the common man. Why would anyone accept the idea that there are rich people out there who totally could donate $1M but will only do it if poor people light $100k on fire?
Discussions with Democrats now rely wholly on "TRUMP BAD" for all messaging. Kamala's such a policy lightweight she didn't even touch the DNC platform (which is still the platform for Biden's second term), and won't use it on her campaign website. Her proposals so far have been pie-in-the-sky "that mighta passed in Commiefornia" price controls, and like everything about this campaign, can only possibly sound plausible until someone hits it with a few non-softball questions.
And now, because I can't resist, one last little note about the convention:
People were hoping the DNC would unveil SOMETHING cool. Have some big reveal. A new policy people loved. An incredible soundbite to take forward and use everywhere. Even a special musical guest would have been something to remember.
What happened at this convention that was at all memorable?
This was a nothingburger convention. They managed to get some people hyped...then gave them nothing. This was convention blue balls. And every Democrat, from the megadonors to the grassroots faithful, had to smile as they put their dick back in the cage and say "yes, Kamala, I understand I wasn't good enough" while writing her another check.
Sure, there are people who get off on that. But do those people make up enough of the electorate? How you do anything is how you do everything, and on some level, even people who want to pull the D lever in November know this. They know Harris/Walz cannot be an effective administration. They have seen that any "victory" they achieve will not drive the results the victory supposedly stands for.
Many of them will pull the lever anyway. But I think there's a chance to at least say to many people: is Harris meeting your minimum standard for a candidate? Is it really okay for Democrats to put out a candidate that is below many people's minimum standards, just because the opponent is even more objectionable to them?
The longer this goes on, the more they have to lean on TRUMP BAD. When people realize that's all they have left...

Yeah the rural Midwest wasn't necessarily THAT desolate, I grew up in the middle of fucking nowhere and my middle-class family bought a nice PC and an AOL subscription in 1997. We only got about 45kbps max but it worked, and any of my friends who weren't absolutely destitute also had a home PC with dialup within a couple years of me.
A lot of my friends had PS1s or N64s, a couple even had a Dreamcast. Like you said most people just went to Walmart and bought them, the Supercenter the next town over had every console set up on a playable display with a large selection of games for each. Back then they also carried a bunch of PC games in those glorious full-sized boxes, their electronic section used to be a lot more than just tablets and phone cables
