I would seriously dispute the idea that Verhoeven's movie accurately reflects Heinlein's vision.Media literacy is watching Starship Troopers, realizing that it's supposed to be satirizing fascism but that the film fails so hard to portray the Federation as fascist that they actually fairly accurately portray Heinlein's vision by complete accident and make the "fascism" look appealing.
Media illiteracy is hearing that Starship Troopers was supposed to satirize fascism and believing the film accurately portrays fascism when it doesn't.
However, I would certainly agree that if Verhoeven was trying to make an anti-fascist parody, he failed miserably on that point as well.
That movie is utter dogshit and an insult to fans of the book. The sequels are even worse.
