They have a similar issue like India where hundreds of years of guaranteed wives through arranged marriage and the whole " muh son to carry on the family line" shtick they still culturally enforce has made them insanely entitled and retarded. Now that women are outpacing the men, they resort to the only thing they have over women, which is physical strength and threats to over power them through rape.

I think there was a lot less investment in the notion of marriage being the one troo luv, Maslow's self-actualisation achievement, kind of thing. If you don't have the jet plane or motor car, you're stuck with the people in the region you were born in, and if you don't have a local Spar or Lidl, you're stuck eating only what you can grow. Finding a spouse to marry was partly ensuring you had land to inherit and live on, and labour to assist providing your basic needs. You decide to get married (or your parents decide), you ask around in town for who's available, and you take your pick of the seven or so suitors, if they'll also take you.

Not really much different to how we handle coworkers today: you don't really get to choose which ones you work alongside, so you can't put too much stock into it, you just hope you can at least tolerate what you end up with.

Of course, the work environment of today is dysfunctional and detrimental to mental health and counterproductive to true economic progress. Which is not really much different to how we used to handle marriage.

In other words, your average moid is no different than your worst coworker: leech-like substances which weigh you down and are a blight on society.

Depends various parts have had arranged marriages to an extent through out various periods. But honestly all that sounds as arranged marriages was more like people showing you potential husband and you talked with him with family present and you said yes no. Other places is straight up they show you this guy and you are getting married in two weeks to him . Also depends on families and how favourite their daughter is. If she was daddys little girl dad might give her a leeway on what she can choose if she is seen as property well she gets treated as property and thus handed off to business partners son or for money.

Yes, but some european countries, like the german states, had laws that prevented men that are to broke from getting married. So marriage wasn't always guaranteed.

I’m in a happy, European, arranged marriage, and the way it works is that both parties parents’ (and optionally an external matchmaker) think you two would make a good couple, you’re introduced to each other, go on a few dates, often cohabit for a while to make sure you can stand each other over a longer duration as well, and then you choose whether you agree the marriage is a good idea or not. The medieval style of arranged marriages with dowries and bride prices are pretty much dead in civilised countries, what replaced it is basically a offline, community-driven dating service. It’s very uncommon to do this among gentiles, but it’s still a thing in Jewish communities. Muslims and East Asians still do the other style, though.

I've yet to meet anybody alive who's been in one. In terms of laws, the RoC banned it once in the 20s and again in the 70s, and the PRC nominally banned it in the 40s (it continued as the standard until the 60s, when they realized they actually did have an interest in promoting love marriages). Japan stopped doing it at some point since the war.

*The RoC's ban in the 70s was for a kind of marriage where a family with too many sons would adopt one out to a family without one under the agreement that he would marry one of his adoptive sisters later.
Unsurprisingly these marriages usually resulted in divorce, or just no kids and with one of the couple getting arrested for adultery (which was a misdemeanor until very recently, and was decriminalized in a move that even men were divided on).

Or go to work on someone else's farm, but there wasn't anywhere much else to go, the land was overpopulated anyway because people don't need legal papers and catholic church to procreate.
This way of life was mostly abandoned in the industrial revolution and then in communism entirely.

Sometimes they sort of were, yes. How exactly the people themselves kept track my sources don't tell, but I guess they were strictly forbidden to date someone from the same village, also the church had some records as for who are parents and from what family. It's not like the villages were far apart from each other, there were many and in walkable distance.
