"Mad at the Internet" - a/k/a My Psychotherapy Sessions

Truly astonishing this man is not fucking dead yet. When was the last time he saw a doctor?
Health insurance would just eat into his gunt fund so probably never for an American doctor. Guess he could go see a Mexican one but why do that when he can get xannie berries no problem now?

Here's my mati thought of the night that I have woken up angry about.

My entire life I was told that it is bad security to share bank details with people you don't trust because fraudulent transactions can be initiated with just the number.

If you Google this question you will literally get multiple high ranking answers from fucking credit bureaus like Experian saying to never publish your bank account number.

But I don't think this is fucking true. I'm pretty fucking sure that companies with lots of money give their information out all the time and never get magically defrauded by people just asking for infinite money, pretty please.

I'm pretty sure the "NEVER!!! Share your bank details" is a fucking credit card myth to force people onto money apps like Venmo

Prove me wrong

You, well, not you, but people with money, can have incoming only accounts that they share for things such as wire transfers and inbound EFT. You might check with your banks and see if they can give you a unique account number only for incoming stuff.
Outgoing accounts like checking presumably have other safeguards to make it so fake checks with proper routing and account numbers can't be used. Obviously another option is just keep enough in an outgoing account to cover current outgoing obligations. Although direct deposit probably makes it less likely that those numbers are out in public.

Just checked with my bank and they do allow outbound EFT to random individuals/businesses with just routing and account numbers. Which saves the $20 wire fee.

I have no idea how to phrase this into an interesting discussion post, so I'm just throwing this out here, for resident schizos to enjoy. The CIA is directly involved in large companies' "Trust and Safety" (banning people) operations.

I have a bad habit of browsing HN, and on the homepage I saw a post about having people apply for jobs in North Korea. Idly I clicked on it, and one of the first things mentioned [A] (and bragged about) is that the company has ex-CIA founders. What does the company do? Per the homepage [A], "empower Trust and Safety teams". Including at Discord and Patreon. Fun stuff!

It’s a myth with a bit of truth, because in nigger days the numbers would let you make a check that would pass a basic “call the bank and verify the account exits and has money” and it could take days to notice (or a month to get your statement).

Nowadays it’s not a major issue since everything is noticed immediately, but companies do have additional protections (like refusing pulls from accounts it doesn’t recognize and flagging them).

Personal account number protection has always been lols because every check ever had it written on it.

There are countries where sharing a credit card number around to receive payments, or even bank account numbers themselves, are common practice.

In the case of America, being where most of this tech got started, I think there is a stigma against doing so because back in the day to use your credit card you literally just stamped the numbers on to a piece of paper using one of these:

So whoever was charging you got to keep an easily falsifiable record of your payment method.

Now a days it's of course not as simple, and most banks even allow you to lock your visa/mc debit card so you cannot make charges against it, so they effectively become an deposit account only.

So I don't think it's necessarily to make you use Venmo, it's just behavior that is grandfathered in due to how insecure things were decades ago.

Venmo is part of the centralization scheme where banks corpos and governments collude. "Never give your bank details" is to ensure people dont steal from you. Its like saying I got a warehouse full of cash at X. Your bank is probably legally obligated to conduct transactions with anybody who has your credentials and personal details. Corpos dont do this cause their business is mostly public transactions and even if they get fucked, they know theyll get bailed by tax payer money. Venmo and digital currency is just tech people fucking with money on behalf of the government. It has nothing to do with a persons life savings. The only solution to this is probably inflation proofing your money through Gold and shit or taking all of your savings and keeping it in a den of vaults at home.

It's from 2008 and the UK, but Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear etc) published his bank account details in a national newspaper claiming the same and a charity donation was set up using the details.

I’m not @Cats but I think I can read this expression. This is a cat who has an active kiwi Farms account with many thousands of posts and he knows that you know that and he knows that you know he knows that and he just does not care.
