Gab Celebrates 8 Years of Unwavering Commitment to Free Speech
Gab’s 8th anniversary marks a significant milestone in the history of online free speech and the preservation of the First Amendment. Since its inception in August of 2016, Gab has consistently allowed for the expression of diverse political opinions and ideas, including those that have been deemed “unpopular” or “fringe” by mainstream media and social media platforms.
This commitment to free speech has had an undeniable impact on shifting the Overton Window, as once taboo topics have gradually become more mainstream and acceptable for public discussion after Gab allowed millions of people to discuss them and learn about them openly without being censored or banned. Over the past eight years, Gab has irreversibly shifted the Overton Window to the right, making once-verboten topics part of the daily mainstream discourse. This includes discussions on the Great Replacement, anti-White hate, criticism of the Israeli lobby, and support for mass deportations among many others. Even five years ago no one would have ever dreamed that mainstream political commentators, members of Congress, and prominent influencers and cultural figures would be openly discussing these topics on a daily basis.
In 2018 and 2019, Gab faced a series of challenges when it was deplatformed from app stores, hosting providers, payment processors, and more. Despite these obstacles, Gab persevered, relying on alternative means of financial support such as checks by mail and bitcoin. It’s crazy to think that we survived as a business by having people mail us physical checks and sending us bitcoin. To this day I don’t think any other tech startup has had to face the level of deplatforming that Gab has faced over the years. We rebuilt everything from scratch including setting up our own physical servers and rebuilding our own internal software tools to do basic operational tasks such as sending emails. This resilience demonstrated the power of determination and the importance of maintaining our principles, even in the face of adversity.
Gab has also been a target of the mainstream media, academic researchers, and activist groups for eight years. For example we were blamed for events such as the January 6th Capitol protest. Despite these accusations, Gab has continued to provide a safe platform for users who feel silenced or marginalized on other social media platforms. This commitment to free speech has been crucial in fostering open dialogue and the exchange of ideas, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Operation Chokepoint, a campaign to restrict financial services to conservative businesses and individuals, targeted Gab shortly after Joe Biden took office. Despite being banned from half a dozen banks, Gab continued to provide a safe haven for medical professionals and dissidents who questioned the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine and its origins. Gab also distributed a religious exemption letter template to millions of people during this time, potentially saving countless lives during the lockdowns and when vaccine mandates became more common.
Gab has consistently refused data requests from foreign governments seeking to dox users for “hate speech” and has taken a stand against censorship and government overreach. Because of this stance we have incurred massive legal fines in foreign countries and I personally cannot travel to these countries without likely being arrested for refusing to comply with censorship or pay the foreign fines.
When Elon Musk acquired Twitter, many people predicted the demise of Gab, but nearly two years later Gab has 40 million unique monthly visitors to its services, double the amount we had when Elon bought Twitter. While X has certainly improved under Elon Musk, the fact remains that Gab is still the only platform on the internet to allow the full protection of 1st Amendment protected speech to not only be posted, but to reach other people as well.
Gab’s recent exposure of the FBI’s Emergency Data Request for the Trump shooter and the sharing of the attacker’s pro-Biden content demonstrates our platform’s commitment to transparency and holding authority accountable. This act of defiance, taken at great personal and business risk, underscores Gab’s unwavering dedication to free speech and the importance of challenging the status quo.
Gab’s survival and growth are a testament to the power of its community. For eight years, Gab has relied on the support of its community to continue its mission of providing a platform for free speech and the exchange of ideas. Gab has faced numerous challenges and obstacles over the past eight years, but has emerged stronger and more committed to its mission. As Gab continues to grow and evolve, it will undoubtedly remain a vital force in the ongoing battle for freedom of speech and the preservation of the First Amendment. Thank you for making that possible.

How the Dissident Right Can Thrive Despite Adversity
Andrew Torba, August 22, 2024
The dissident right, a faction of the political right that is dissatisfied with the trajectory of the Republican party and its leadership, faces significant obstacles in terms of financial support and patronage. The current political and economic establishment, which greatly benefits from maintaining the postwar neoliberal consensus shared by both the Republican and Democrat machines, controls most of the serious capital. This makes it difficult for alternative voices, businesses, and movements to gain traction and sustain their efforts.
However, there are several massive wealth transfer events on the horizon that will change this dynamic, providing the dissident right with unprecedented opportunities for growth and influence.
Generational Wealth Transfer
The impending generational wealth transfer from Baby Boomers to Millennials and Gen X over the next decade or so will provide an influx of resources to the dissident right. As this wealth changes hands, there will be more opportunities for individuals and organizations aligned with the dissident right to secure funding and support. This transfer of wealth will likely lead to a shift in political and cultural priorities, as younger generations tend to have different values and beliefs than their predecessors. The dissident right certainly has a fair number of boomer supporters for which we are tremendously grateful, but by in large the majority of this generation is very committed to protecting the existing uniparty regime over dissident ideals.
Bitcoin’s Potential “Moon” Event
The potential for Bitcoin to experience a significant price increase, or “going to the moon,” will create a new class of wealthy individuals who are sympathetic to the dissident right’s cause. Many Bitcoin holders are already aligned with the dissident right’s views, and a substantial increase in the cryptocurrency’s value will provide them with the financial means to support the movement more robustly. This influx of capital will enable the dissident right to expand its reach, fund new initiatives, and challenge the dominant political and cultural narratives.
The Rise of AI as a Net Benefit for the Dissident Right
As my friend Nate Fischer pointed out: the emergence of advanced AI technologies is poised to bring about significant changes in the workforce, with far-reaching implications for the dissident right and the broader political landscape. As AI begins to replace tasks traditionally performed by political opponents, such as professional managerial class (PMC) functionaries, it is likely to shift the balance of power and influence in favor of those who lean right.
One of the key advantages that the dissident right may gain from the rise of AI is an increase in the relative income of individuals engaged in executive agency, problem-solving, and skilled physical world work. These types of work tend to be more aligned with right-leaning values and are less susceptible to automation and replacement by AI. As the demand for these skills grows, so too will the earning potential and economic clout of those who possess them.
This shift in the workforce will have profound implications for the dissident right, as it will enable individuals and organizations to invest more resources into building alternative institutions and supporting the broader movement. With greater financial security and stability, the dissident right will be better positioned to challenge the dominant cultural and political narratives and push for real change in our society.
Moreover, the rise of AI may also lead to a decrease in the influence of left-leaning institutions, such as universities and mainstream media outlets, as their traditional functions are increasingly automated and replaced by more efficient and cost-effective technologies. This could create new opportunities for the dissident right to fill the void left by these declining institutions and establish a stronger foothold in the cultural and intellectual landscape.
What Do We Do In The Meantime?
The dissident right must rely on its own resources and the support of like-minded individuals to continue its efforts. While this may be challenging, it is a necessary step until the landscape shifts in our favor. We are like the pilgrims landing in America with nothing but the clothes on our backs and the support of one another.
I can’t stress this enough: we need to support one another. We are all we have right now, but a time is fast approaching where we will have an extraordinary amount of wealth to fund our movement, organizations, and voices to rebuild our nations. By fostering a strong sense of community and mutual support, the dissident right can weather the current challenges and emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before.
Gab is a prime example of how the dissident right can thrive despite facing significant financial and institutional challenges. For the past eight years, Gab has existed without the support of institutional capital, relying instead on the generosity and dedication of its community of users. This grassroots funding model has enabled Gab to remain true to its core values of free speech and individual liberty, without bowing to the pressures and influences of mainstream backers.
The success of Gab is a testament to the power of community support and the importance of investing in platforms and organizations that align with our values. Without the financial contributions of its users, Gab would not be the thriving platform it is today. This urgent dependence on the support of the people is what sets Gab apart from other social media companies and underscores the importance of building a strong, resilient community.
To ensure the continued growth and success of Gab, it is crucial that users actively support the platform by donating, upgrading to GabPRO, and purchasing merchandise from the Gab Shop. These contributions not only help to keep the lights on but also send a powerful message that there is a strong and dedicated community of individuals who believe in the importance of free speech and the power of alternative media.
As we look to the future, it is essential that we remain focused on our goals and values, even in the face of adversity. The coming wealth transfer events will provide us with the resources we need to effect real change, but it is up to us to ensure that we use these resources wisely and in accordance with our principles. By working together and supporting one another, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and for generations to come.

And let's remember how Torba dealt with that situation. After the hero Robert Bowers cleaned up some cockroaches, Torba sent the feds the dox of a couple young guys without even asking for a warrant, just because they'd commented on Bowers's posts.I love how Andrew Torba has the FBI on speed dial.
It wouldn't be the first time Torba got caught up in trouble with the feds (see the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting).

X Banned Nationwide in Brazil: The War For Free Speech Has Begun
We are in the fight of our lives for free speech and the free internet on a global scale.
If we lose it, we will never get it back. This is the hill to die on. It’s time to wake up and get to work.
Today Brazil has banned the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, after it failed to meet a deadline set by Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes to appoint a new legal representative in the country.
First I want to say that Gab.com will welcome our friends in Brazil to speak freely on our platform. We have received numerous requests from the Brazilian government in the past to censor and remove users and we have refused to comply. Gab only adheres to American laws.
The judge in Brazil has ordered the “immediate and complete suspension” of X until it complies with all court orders for censorship and pays existing fines. The dispute began in April when the judge ordered the suspension of dozens of X accounts for allegedly spreading disinformation.
The head of Brazil’s telecommunications agency, which has been tasked with suspending the platform, said he is “proceeding with the compliance” to do so. The platform is expected to be unavailable in Brazil within the next 24 hours. Justice Moraes has given companies such as Apple and Google a five-day deadline to remove X from its application stores and block its use on iOS and Android systems. He added that individuals or businesses using VPNs to access the platform could be fined R$50,000.
The ban will remain in effect until X appoints a new legal representative in the country and pays fines for violating Brazilian law. In a previous post, X had stated that it would not comply with the demands, arguing that Judge de Moraes’ orders would require them to break Brazil’s own laws.
This move by Brazil highlights the growing global battle between governments and American tech companies over free speech. With France arresting Telegram CEO Pavel Durov, Germany harassing and fining Gab for refusing to censor and hand over data of users “insulting” politicians, and now Brazil banning X, it is clear that the fight for free speech on the internet is more critical than ever.
The outcome of this battle will have far-reaching consequences for various issues, including abortion, gun rights, and foreign wars. It is imperative that we hold our ground and fight for the preservation of free speech and a free internet.
We urge you to join us here at Gab in this fight. A fight that we have been waging for eight years now. We will do whatever it takes to defend free speech from tyrannical governments, radical activist groups, media pressure, and other bad actors who hate free speech.
If not us, then who? If not now, then when?
Christians all around the world are being censored and silenced for their beliefs. Don’t think for one second that once these governments take our free speech they won’t use it to make our faith prohibited by law. It’s happened many times throughout history and it will happen again if we stand by and say nothing while we still can.
We must stand up and fight back against this tyranny, daring to say “no” to the most powerful governments and institutions in the world in the name of free speech. Our children are counting on us to leave them a world that is better than the one we grew up in. Free speech is the only thing that is going to make that possible. We cannot let them down.
The best way you can support our efforts is by getting on Gab.com and telling your friends about us. If you want to support us monetarily you can donate here or click here to upgrade your account to GabPRO.
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.
We will win.

In Torba's defense, you know every "anti-extremist" organization is probably raping his site with robots 24/7. All of the Media Matters, ACLU, Southern Poverty law center types love the idea of capturing racism in its digital form.Andrew has announced [archive] that Gab is rolling out a new update which will limit non-pro users ability to view posts more than 2 months old, dropping to 1 week for unauthenticated users. Andrew claims he's doing this "to combat bot scraping from our enemies and from various AI services that are stealing this data to train on without our permission", however I am personally not convinced that this is the sole reason given it did not help Xitter much with it's bot problem (specifically those that are verified) and the fact that bots may continually scrape posts over time as months roll over anyway. That, and Cloudflare (which Gab uses) already offers a way to block scrapers and bots, with an option to do so specifically for scrapers gathering data for model training.
A similar system to Xitter is probably better suited, where free and verified users have different limits on the amount of posts that can be seen within a certain time frame. I've never broken that limit on there, so the free limits are certainly sufficient for the average user.

The recent situation involving Starlink and the Brazilian government highlights a complex and concerning intersection of technology, law, and free speech. Elon Musk’s satellite internet company, Starlink, initially resisted a Brazilian Supreme Court order to block access to the social media platform X, also owned by Musk. This resistance was due to the Brazilian authorities freezing Starlink’s financial assets as leverage to enforce compliance with the order. Eventually, Starlink decided to comply with the order to maintain its operational license in Brazil, despite the asset freeze being contested as unlawful by the company.
This incident sets a worrisome precedent for free speech and the operations of foreign companies in sovereign nations. By freezing Starlink’s assets to enforce compliance, the Brazilian government has demonstrated a powerful tool that other countries might emulate to control digital platforms and content. Such actions could encourage governments worldwide to leverage financial and operational pressures to enforce censorship, potentially stifling free speech and innovation.
Elon Musk’s situation illustrates the complexities faced by global tech companies operating in diverse regulatory environments. Despite owning both Starlink and X, Musk found himself in a position where his internet service provider was compelled to censor his social media platform. This highlights the challenges of maintaining operational integrity while adhering to local laws, which may conflict with the company’s or owner’s principles on free speech.
The Brazilian case could serve as a blueprint for other nations seeking to exert control over digital platforms. If governments see that financial leverage can effectively enforce compliance, they might adopt similar tactics, potentially leading to a fragmented internet where content accessibility varies significantly by region. This could undermine the global nature of the internet and lead to increased censorship and control by authoritarian regimes.
The Starlink situation in Brazil underscores the delicate balance between adhering to local laws and upholding principles of free speech. As global tech companies navigate these challenges, the international community must consider the implications of such precedents on the freedom of information and the potential for increased governmental control over digital platforms. The outcome of Starlink’s legal challenges in Brazil will be closely watched, as it may influence future interactions between tech companies and governments worldwide.
Musk has his own internet service provider in Brazil and is being forced to comply with their ban of his own social network on it because they seized his company’s assets. A lot of people are afraid to say this out loud, but I’m not: we’re going to need to build our own parallel government-in-waiting by building parallel infrastructure and institutions now.
History has shown us that this strategy works.
During the era of Soviet domination in Czechoslovakia, dissidents and anti-communist activists secretly established a parallel government-in-waiting. This shadow government operated clandestinely, preparing for the eventual collapse of the oppressive communist regime. When the Velvet Revolution of 1989 led to the fall of the communist government, this parallel government, led by figures like Václav Havel, was well-positioned to step in and assume power.
The recent actions of Gab in resisting censorship demands from foreign governments highlight the critical importance of protecting free speech in the digital age. Unlike other tech companies, Gab has taken a principled stand against government overreach and attempts to silence dissenting voices.
By refusing to comply with censorship orders from Brazilian authorities, Gab has demonstrated its commitment to upholding the fundamental right to freedom of speech. Gab has no offices in Brazil, or any foreign nation for that matter, and so it is much easier for us to stand up to foreign governments and tell them no as they have zero leverage over us. This stance is particularly significant given the growing trend of governments around the world attempting to control and restrict online discourse.
Gab’s resistance serves as an example of how tech platforms can push back against unwarranted censorship demands. By challenging these orders, Gab is helping to safeguard the open exchange of ideas that is vital to a healthy society.
The importance of building alternative platforms and infrastructure to circumvent government censorship cannot be overstated. As traditional social media giants increasingly bow to pressure from authorities, the need for censorship-resistant technologies becomes ever more apparent.
Platforms like Gab play a crucial role in providing spaces where unpopular or controversial speech can still be expressed without fear of censorship. This is essential for preserving the marketplace of ideas and preventing the consolidation of narrative control in the hands of governments or large corporations. Moving forward, it is imperative that we continue to develop and support technologies that are resistant to censorship and government control.
The fight for free speech is ongoing, and the actions of companies like Gab in standing up to censorship demands are a vital part of that struggle. By refusing to capitulate to government pressure, these platforms help preserve the internet as a space for open dialogue and the free exchange of ideas.

Regarding The “Arrest Warrant”
As I sit down to write this, a convincing image is circulating all across the X, appearing to be a federal warrant for my arrest as well as one for the CEO of Rumble.
When I first stumbled upon a network of anonymous accounts on X posting it this afternoon, it was news to me because I had not been arrested and I was not contacted by anyone in the US government about this.
My lawyer got in touch with the FBI, and their response was ambiguous to say the least. They said they can't, as a matter of policy, confirm whether someone has an arrest warrant out on them or not. If there were one out, it wouldn't be public, and they would have just gone out and picked me up. You would think they would be interested in a forged federal indictment floating all over the internet, but I digress.
So, I think we're in the clear, but who knows?
Perhaps I'll be woken up at 5am to an FBI raid on my home. Crazier things have happened on my journey building Gab and dedicating my life's work to defending free speech online at great personal and financial cost.
We live in an age of chaos and uncertainty, which is why I am so thankful to serve and worship God who brings order and peace.
I long ago accepted that lawfare, jail, and some form of witch hunt were on the table for the Regime to attack me with.
I am at peace knowing that God is sovereign over my life and I trust fully in His plan.
I suspect that this is likely a disinformation psyop campaign being run against me by any number of foreign governments that I've angered for refusing to censor content over the years, but I won't rule out anything given the state of things.
I ask that you please keep my family in your prayers. Obviously, when family members scroll their social media feeds and see what appears to be an arrest warrant with my name on it going viral, everyone gets very on edge.
This type of psychological terrorism has unfortunately been the norm in my life for the past eight years, but it never gets any easier to see my family members worried and upset.
As Christians, we must stand firm in our faith and trust in God’s plan, no matter what challenges or obstacles we may face.
So that’s what I plan to continue doing.
Stay strong, my friends. God is with us always, and He will guide us through any storm we may encounter on this journey.
