Sony hate thread

the budget of gta 6 is 2 fucking billions, if you are not rockstar level big plan accordingly
GTA 6 will tank (relative to the size of the franchise) and i'm tired of people thinking it won't. It's the same situation that led up to other "it was made by X it can't fail" games like TLoU2, Halo Infinite, Cyberpunk and Starfield. Rockstar are the ones still buying GTA5 to push/keep players in GTA online.

On topic - Sony are fucked. Who the fuck is going to buy the PS5pro and what games will make it worth it? I've seen cope online saying Sony are holding games back so they can launch them with the PS5PRO, as if that's a good thing for gamers! Fucking retarded.

Eight years of chasing a trend only for 600 peak players. Sony should've revived SOCOM or Killzone if they wanted to get back into the shooter market. Now that I think of it, SOCOM would not survive with Rainbow Six: Siege and Warzone taking over today's market.
Killzone would probably just trudge along in the background like it always has, but it has a tested world and neat designs. Offer up a campaign with playable Helghast side and most established fans would play it.
>Helldivers 2
Popped off hard but then they nuked their playerbase between Sony's PSN retardation and the devs being complete retards
Sony made the mistake of speedrunning their goodwill into the money converter. A year or two of just solid management might have given them more leeway and retained popularity, but consecutive anti-consumer fails basically tarnished its reputation as quickly as it had gained it.

I think this as well. Relative to the hype I don't think this game will do as well as people expect. If there is indeed 2 billion already spent, then it will likely be much more when advertising comes in. To keep the same profit for dollar spent they'll need to make 60 billion. But even then, if it is successful enough I think it will make the gaming industry even more unstable, especially with Sony. Imagine a Last of Us game with 2 billion on the line, one unlucky launch and entire treasuries of third world countries go up in flames.

They still haven't made a GTA better than Vice City and that was made in under a year on a shoestring budget.
Major publishers, including Rockstar, are still yet to learn that a good game, and a game so detailed that the horses have realistic genitals are not the same thing.

Astro Bot comes out NEXT WEEK and it still hasn't gotten a second trailer. It's a good job the devs are advertising it through the Astro's Playroom updates, otherwise I assume most people wouldn't even known a sequel is coming out.
Which sequence will they use for Last of Us 2? Astro Bot caving Joel's head in with a golf club? Or Astro Bot getting fucked by Mexican dude?

Ridiculous. That they're actually going through with the PS5Pro is pure lunacy but to do it even after the vocal backlash over the price hike of the base model and still with no worthwhile games to play is pure, unadulterated Special Olympics mental retardation.

Nigger-Man 2 put Sony almost HALF A BILLION DOLLARS in the hole because they had to sell 7,000,000 units just to start turning a profit. For a game, by their own admission, people may not even be able to tell is any better visually than Spider-Man 1.
That doesn't include the amount that sony has to pay disney for the right to bundle the game (which is where the vast majority of "sales" came from). At one point, I had the slide from the insomniac leak showing just how bad sony were getting REAMED by disney for every bundle, as disney takes a sizeable chunk from the wholesale price of the console itself, not just the msrp of the game. If I find it again, I'll edit it into the post.

GTA 6's budget is 7.55x the budget of GTA 5, and that game launched right at the end of a very well-established generation, with versions for the next generation a year later.

GTA 6 is launching into a very weak generation, on the third and fourth place gaming platforms. Switch is still ever popular, with whispers about a new generation of Switch ever-lurking, and PC's been growing like wildfire, especially with the whole new paradigm of portable gaming PCs like Steam Deck. It's safe to say there will be a PC release someday, but, it'll be tied into Rockstar's own launcher, and Rockstar has done an exclusivity deal with Epic Games before. So, it'll be late to Steam, and most likely never see a pure Steam release. And of course it'll never come to GOG, lol.

It's gonna be interesting to see how GTA 6 goes. GTA's been such a kingmaker throughout the entire 21st century so far. It'll be a piracy-only game for me due to Rockstar's stupid launcher, unless I happen to win a console with it bundled in a sweepstakes.

Holding back games would be one big middle finger to their userbase, but then again, they are giving middle fingers to their userbase already.

I could've sworn they've actually said as much (they're holding games back for the Pro). I might be drunk though because I can't seem to find the quote at the moment...

It might have a soft launch, but between whatever check sony cut to delay the pc release, combined with all the mindless conSOOMers that will double dip that would have just gotten the pc version otherwise, they'll make their money back in the long run.

Holding back games would be completely in tune with the general mismanagement of the company ever since Sony of USA is holding the reins but, to echo the tone of my previous post, it would be exceptionally retarded to actually do so when the user base is screaming for nothing but games, games, games. Which is only natural for someone who bought a fucking GAMING console. Though from what i read ITT there are more than a few people out there who buy a PS5 just as a Netflix-and-Fortnite box for whatever fucking reason.

it will make those 2 billions in a week
Hmm

I'm not so sure.

If you divide 2 bil by $70 game price, factoring in the 30% publisher cut, they'd need to sell north of 40 million units to break even. In a week?

Now they will sell for >$70 and sell DLC but they will also move physical units and there will be price cuts (even in the first week for different geos).

Was it even worth the investment? If you compare to sticking money into the S&P 500 over the past 10 years, they'd need to sell even more... when the money was spent & how that really compares is hard to say but in a 5 year horizon that alone is a money doubler. So sell 80 million units to beat a conservative stock portfolio.

Most mature tech companies need > 30% margins each year to not look retarded to investors. If you think more along the lines of 3 - 4x total investment in the insane timeframe GTA6 was in development you might get closer to being worth it vs opportunity cost. So 160 million to not be a fuckup, while still not being a unicorn level result like GTA5 had which totalled 200million on a much lower investment.

How much is the game going woke and not having the edgy jokes going to depress sales?

I remember saying the exact same thing and called crazy for it. Nice knowing people are coming around. GTA 5 launched on two very successful console generations when gaming was peak. GTA 6 is launching at the worst generation in a while. It might do well but it might not do well enough for its cost.

I had this conversation with friends about Spider-Man 2. They did not believe me when I told them that the game failed. And then, the leaks happened.

The insane budget and 6 year average development timeframe is just completely fucked. Nuke it all from orbit and reset to 2 year average with a team of dozens max and we can start getting back to reality. You would probably see 30x as many "high end" games.
