Very quick explanation is that it allows you to draw 2 cards.
That doesn't sound like much, but unlike most popular TCGs, there's no resource cost in Yu Gi Oh. This means you basically get to turn one card into two with no downside.
The other thing is that in most card games, smaller and more tightly-designed decks actually do better because there's less chaff in them, and you can get to any specific card you need more easily. Pot of Greed, in Yu Gi Oh, is essentially an automatic pick in any deck which doesn't need to fill out the absolute maximum limit of the roster, and even in those it's still useful, because it functionally 'shrinks' the deck, getting your valuable cards out faster.

Because of these qualities, it's heavily used in the anime, where it acts as a great enabler to all sorts of bullshit. In the real game, it's banned, and a variety of other pot cards have come and gone with various limitations on the effect.

Fun news: while Michigan refuses to remove RFK from the ballot even though he suspended his campaign, they are kicking Cornel West off the ballots even though he has an active campaign.

Speaking of poll workers, a lawsuit has been filed alleging that Detroit's ratio of Democrat to Republican poll works is nearly 7:1 and additionally alleges state law requires as close to a 1:1 match as possible. I have no idea if the suit has merit or if it will go anywhere since the Michigan Supreme Court has been Blue ever since Whitmer's first term.
