I'd lean towards the latter - say what we will about Biden being given the Weekend at Bernies treatment, even during Basement Strats he was still talking to the media. Harris, meanwhile, has single digit interactions with the media - it's probably harder to play propaganda when the team you run it for is treating you like the common folk.

One criricism of Trump I thought was legit was that you see him smile but never laugh. I love that the one time I've seen him laugh was at the convention when Meatball Ron made a Weekend at Bernie's joke. So Trump's more of a references guy than a joke guy, I can respect that. Voting is an emotional act, not a rational one. If Election Day rolls around and you feel bad about a candidate, you won't cast a vote for them.

Rationalization and panicked self-justification happens, sometimes, but those are arguably post hoc actions. Essentially one part of your brain is trying to convince the rational part that you totally have a real and objective reason to do what you wanted to do anyway.

Political analysts have used the term "undecided voters" for too long without fixing their vocabulary. The smart ones say "persuadable" voters. The problem is they can't measure it--few voters have enough introspection to realize they might change their mind. But the ones currently feeling ambivalent or undecided can easily answer that on a poll question.

There are absolutely persuadable voters out there, boomer or otherwise. Just ask Hilary Clinton, a fixture in American politics for 25 years, who saw her long-established support slump overnight when the FBI released the letter calling her a criminal. Or Trump's polling numbers, when he officially picked up the "felon" title.
