So in this thread I talked about how Amy Schumer is gonna be the lead of the upcoming Barbie movie.

Well it appears that *Everyone* is doing the exact same thing as they did with Ghostbusters

Why Amy Schumer will be the most perfect (imperfect) Barbie ever

Attention, feminists. Before you write off 2016 as a net loss for contemporary feminism, know this: Amy Schumer is in talks to play Barbie in a live-action comedy.

According to Variety, Schumer is close to a deal with Mattel and Sony Pictures to star as Barbie in a film in which she gets “kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure.” It’s a departure from the more reverential animated Barbie movies of the past, but still meant to be a family flick, with a planned PG rating. And who better to recalibrate the image and message of Barbie than Schumer, who is expected to tweak the screenplay with her sister Kim Caramele, a writer and producer on “Inside Amy Schumer”?

3. She’s smart and self-made. According to Mattel, Barbie has had more than 150 careers. (Granted, that’s a pretty impressive résumé). But she might still want to look to Schumer for lessons on charting her own destiny. After perfecting her singular comedic style at comedy clubs, Schumer inked deals to write her own TV show, and then a hit movie, followed by a best-selling book. Unclear if she drives a pink convertible, but the point is: She could if she wanted to.

4. She doesn’t take any crap. We have a feeling that nobody is going to push this Barbie around. Here’s Schumer’s master class in dealing with hecklers.

5. Her self-esteem is infectious. Schumer is said to be rewriting the Barbie movie’s original screenplay with her sister Caramele, so she’ll have control over the 2018 film’s theme and content. And if the kids who see it come away with an extra ounce of the confidence that Schumer exudes, we’ll all be the better for it.

"I meant to write "good morning trolls!" I hope you find some joy in your lives today in a human interaction and not just in writing unkind things to a stranger you've never met who triggers something in you that makes you feel powerless and alone. This is how I look. I feel happy. I think I look strong and healthy and also like miss trunchbull from Matilda. Kisses!"

Seasons may change and Instagram might let celebrities disable comments now, but Twitter trolls will never stop coming for Amy Schumer. Apparently a steady diet of misogyny and self-hatred does do a body good!

The “Trainwreck” star is currently in talks to star in Sony’s live-action “Barbie” movie as the titular Mattel doll who feels like she doesn’t fit in the perfect world of plastic, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After being expelled from Barbieland, she’s dropped into the real world à la “Splash” or, for those seeking a more current reference, “The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water.” Barbie’s time away from the dream house leads her on a path of self-discovery and to the conclusion that perfection comes from the inside.

Predictable? Maybe. A positive step in the right direction for a company that traffics in unhealthy body standards? Absolutely.

Of course, internet trolls sprung into action on the heels of Schumer’s news without reading anything about the movie and started body-shaming the actress for not fitting the Barbie mold.

Tweeters who’ve ventured outside their parents’ basement, however, were quick to commend Sony on the choice, calling Schumer an empowering choice for women everywhere.

THIS IS 100% the same as Ghostbusters.

THIS SHIT IS GONNA TURN NUCLEAR

Why is it always Barbie?

No, really. Why are feminists so obsessed with Barbie? That fucking doll isn't the reason little fat girls have problems, it's because of the shitty kids around them who are being what they are; shitty kids.

And since when are dolls supposed to be replicas of actual real-life humans? And likewise why do these idiots think functionning human beings believe other humans have to have doll features? Do russian women have several other smaller russian women inside them?

A question to the guys out there! Have you ever felt self-consious about your bodies because of a Ken or Action-Man whatever figurine?
:powerlevel: I always was a fat brat myself, but when I started whining because of it Barbie was the least of my damn concerns. :powerlevel:

And GOD Schumer needs to get her greasy fingers off kids' franchises and back into her vagiiiiiiina so she can keep doing her shitty feminist stand-up comedy shows and leave the rest of the world alone.

Disney did the same thing 16 years ago. And they did it with a black woman.

Up yours Sony, you wannabee progressives.

Internet, why do you never cease to disappoint me? People on the web can't help but turn the wonderful news about Amy Schumer's possible casting in the live-action Barbie film into hateful and disheartening Twitter noise. The news has sparked social media users to publicly give their unwarranted two cents and body-shame the actor. While it's heartbreaking, I know Schumer will pay no mind and rise above it, because that's what she does best. Not to mention, the backlash just reinforces the entire premise of the film and how narrow-minded people can still be, even if it is 2016.

Not so ironically, the upcoming Sony film, which is reportedly "in the vein of Splash, Enchanted, and Big," according to Variety, will speak to this very issue. As for the plot of the Barbie movie, the publication said, "In it, the main character gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure." The actor's real-life antics about refusing to conform and marching to the beat of your own drum align perfectly with the film. An empowering, positive movie with Schumer as modern Barbie would be a perfect slap in the face to cowardly internet users who can't accept that beauty comes in many forms. But I'll be honest, seeing how irritated people are that Schumer doesn't look exactly like the picture-perfect (and unrealistic) doll they grew up with is disgusting and beyond discouraging.
While a handful of Twitter users praise Schumer's potential casting, they're outnumbered by those who blindly feel the need to police other people's bodies. "Someone put a bullet in 2016. It's tripping balls," one user writes, using side-by-side photos that compare Schumer to the original doll. Another user tweets, "Shamu would be a much better fit," while other tweets go to extremes like, "Ive been hearing fat ugly @amyschumer is in talks to star in a barbie movie? Everybody invest in clorox, bleach is going to skyrocket! #fat." Actual publications aren't even better than this, with Barstool Sports tweeting, "Amy Schumer is playing fat Barbie in a new bullsh*t movie about how it's what's on the inside that counts."

I mean, there are truly no words. I shouldn't be surprised, but somehow I still am. The fact that people out there not only have these thoughts but feel justified in publicly sharing them is beyond me. Resisting my urge to quit the internet, I'll stick around knowing Schumer will shut this all down and proudly stick to who she is like she did on Instagram earlier in the year. "This is how I look. I feel happy. I think I look strong and healthy and also like miss trunchbull from Matilda," she wrote.

I won't sugarcoat it and say this film will make these body-shamers change their tune, or that it will foster a healthy, more positive Twitter environment. I'm not sure how realistic it is for the internet to not be a black hole of ignorance and negativity. But if the upcoming film allows women to embrace their imperfections and teach little girls that beauty isn't a single, unattainable standard, then that's retaliation in itself.

An empowering, positive movie with Schumer as modern Barbie would be a perfect slap in the face to cowardly internet users who can't accept that beauty comes in many forms.

However, if she does play the titular role in Barbie, all of that could change: The film will probably be rated PG, according to Deadline. And if a PG flick about a beloved toy isn't a movie for youths, I don't know what is.

This isn't just like Ghostbusters 2016. This is Sony deliberately doubling down on everything wrong with Ghostbusters. Ghostbusters' Feminism wasn't enough, they'll pack even more feminism and then cram in some fat acceptance bullshit.

Maybe Disney is missing an opportunity to make a little money with an edit of WALL-E as an inspirational, rather than grim, view of the future.

They always seem to forget that Barbie isn't just a pretty face. She's also been everything from a teacher to a businesswoman to an astronaut to the President. Seriously.

Shit, this year they even sold a two-Barbie set that consisted of President Barbie and her female vice president. The podium even says "first all female ticket!" And the VP is even black. How is that not progressive?

I was overweight as a kid (and I still am), but I never felt ashamed of my body because of Barbie. I loved Barbie. I understood that she was just a doll and I shouldn't be basing my self-image off of her.

If any little girl does feel self-conscious because of Barbie, I blame it on the parents. Instead of being like "BURN ALL BARBIES IMMEDIATELY!!!" they should be telling their children that Barbie is just a toy and nobody looks like her.

I don't know why you'd want a "comedian" famous for sexual gross out humor to be the spokesperson for a line of non-trashy children's dolls. That's like centering an education program's publicity campaign around an athlete drafted out of high school.
The only reason one could guess is that Schumer is blonde and that she worked on Ghostbusters. Even then, the comedy she does isn't kid appropriate. Sure one might bring up that a raunchy comedian could do kid friendly stuff such as George Carlin doing a voice-over in Thomas the Train but even then, there would be better actresses to pick than Schumer.

Since this movie is bound to attract salt from either side, one may as well prepare for anti-SJW nuts proclaiming Barbie is ruined by feminist and SJW's thinking Barbie is too sexist or has a non-obtainable body.

So there's gonna be a Jewish SJW Conspiracy that is aimed towards our daughters in this movie too according to the defenders of the White Race.

Amy Schumer has no experience in children's/family media at all. Even George Carlin, who was in Cars (first movie only due to his death in 2008) had experience at PG-rated comedy, he was Rufus in the Bill & Ted movies. Chris Pratt, from the LEGO movies, in comparison, has background in lighter comedy (namely Parks & Recreation).

Well it's an influencial toy but it might also be because a woman created Barbie and so they can't just blame men. (This podcast is a really good history of the Barbie doll and related controversies)

It's also a fashion doll so maybe they think if they make a fat barbie then it'll somehow affect the fashion industry?
