Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Oh, we talking about Star Wars' military structure? I'll simply state that even if you don't like table top games you would probably really like West End Game's Empire and Rebel Alliance source books. They actually go somewhat into detail on both their structure and methods.

And the Venator could be a multirole hull, where you can refit it with different modules to fulfill certain roles as needed. Not part of the universe, but in Alien's universe ships like the Nostromo (M-Class, specifically it's called the Bison Class) are prized because they're heavily customizable due to modularity.

And the Venator could be a multirole hull
Someone once compared the Imperial Star Destroyer to an amphibious assault ship, I can't remember where but that's stuck with me. It carries troops, launches smaller craft, and has enough weapons to defend itself. It's an imperfect analogy but I don't think it's completely wrong. Star Destroyers in general being multirole platforms that can shoot their way through a blockade, land troops on a planet, secure it, and then hold orbit against any reinforcements makes a lot of sense to me. A good writer could do some interesting contrasts in strengths and weaknesses between the Republic/Imperial jack of all trades ships and their more specialized Separatist/Rebel enemies.

Imagining that the First Order and resistance are that small in reality and fighting over worthless worlds while the rest of the galaxy doesn't care would make for a funny idea.
Only if Null is the newscaster.

"Welcome to Galactic News 9, I am "Joshua Thats No Moon" and in Today's news The First Order and the New Republic had a Slapfight in the Outer Rim over planet 487914 which hasn't had life on it since a Wookie was accidentally fed Blue Milk and unleashed a fart that made the Biome unlivable"

Here to say Star Wars Outlaws is exactly as abysmally dogshit as I came to expect. The literal second I heard Ubisoft were the ones making it I knew exactly what to expect and wouldn't you know it? It's the same old awful slop they always make.

I like how even in a game where you're supposed to be an "Outlaw" you are literally NOT ALLOWED to be a bad guy, you HAVE to be a good guy. Remember when Knights of the Old Republic actually gave you a choice? Nope, can't have that anymore.

Also saw an article coping so hard about why you aren't allowed to shoot while driving your speeder. Just... what fucking dogshit.
Anyone who expected anything less from Ubisoft are fucking morons at this point. This is like what.... the 500th time?

If there's one thing I like about old Karen, she did not bullshit us with this idea of Politically Correct Mandalorians. Mandos were dickhead space vikings, almost like Saiyans, who hid all their atroicities behind a crappy code of honor. She thought that was cool and that's it, AFAIK there were no attempts to present them as the unambigious heroes of the story.

"GUYS WOAH BIG TWIST THE SAME COMPANY BUILDS BOTH TIE FIGHTERS AND X WINGS GUYS! THEY'RE JUST IN IT FOR THA MONE!"
HAHAHA except that's actually wrong.

Sienar Fleet Systems designed TIEs, being the Empire's go-to; not as efficient, but that's because the Empire favored fleet over starfighter forces. Incom did the X-Wing and legitimately refused to build for the Empire and went rogue. Malicious incompetence strikes again.

Also it's absolutely comical that the Resistance forces are that tiny; that's like the numbers you'd see in a Rebel Alliance cell on a single planet... for like their starfighter squadron and mechanics. Maybe if it's a real small cell you throw in their Intelligence staff too.

"The resistance" was presented as like just a super elite part of the republic's army in the force awakens IIRC but they just like treat it like it's the whole thing in the second movie. Seriously though once they knew where the fucking first order guys were and destroyed their base of operations why didn't they just like sick EVERYONE on them? "oh but they destroyed a bunch of the capital city planets with the big red laser!" Yeah ok sure but those weren't ALL the planets since their whole goal was to become a new empire and you can't do that if all inhabitable civilized worlds go and stop fucking existing. There's straight up guys out there they literally all show up last second with the rando civillians at the end of rise of fucking skywalker. Why the fuck do they even need the civillians? cannon fodder? operation get behind the darkiesER I mean xenos? Where the fuck were the republic forces during the entirety of the last jedi?

I speculated somewhere in the Evangelion thread (TLJ came up in that conversation) that the rest of the galaxy does not give a shit or actively hates the New Republic for being weak and incompetent. It was then confirmed in Ahsoka with Imperial Remnants constantly infiltrating the New Republic shipyards because they can't be bothered to even vet their new hires.* And you can see just how weak and tenuous the New Republic's hold on the Outer Rim is in how Captain Teva is literally the only competent employee in the New Republic and he gets stonewalled by bureaucracy, so he has to go to the Mandalorians to help him out. Also, the New Republic is perfectly fine using the Mind Flayer on Doctor Pershing in Mandalorian, so, it seems like a pretty scummy government to me.

*In fairness, it's probably because ex-Empire people are the only ones qualified to actually do the job of decommissioning old Empire ships.

It's interesting because in my mind I associate Ubi-soft with just mass producing large open world games, all of a similar format and being pretty good at that. So I am kind of surprised. However, looking into it I haven't played a new Ubi-soft game within the last 6 years.

It still seems surprising that they seemed to have put so little effort into the game. My association with Star Wars games was always that they were high quality in the Luscas Arts days. Even though the EA Battlefront games were too casual for me as a long term Battlefield player. They at least looked fantastic.

Outlaws seems like it was made by the worst people at Ubi-Soft. It's still so odd how awful everything Star Wars related is these days.

I remember buying a woman in KOTOR II and coming back to collect my money, that was the best source of cash in the game.

You know we live in a fucked timeline where it may actually reach the point where game studios may not bother or even want to do a Star Wars game because everyone just treats the brand with a concerning amount of cultural apathy...thus making it a bad business choice, not even mentioning any fuckery that comes with working with The Mouse.

This is just...sad.

Honestly from TFA and everything I've seen about TLJ it kind of feels like that.

It helps that the galaxy feels microscopic in comparison to the scope of the prequels.

Its kind of fucked that the New Republic is shown to be argurably even MORE corrupt and incompetent than the old one. Legends New republic was far from perfect too but they were trying to be an actual competent system of government that could stand up for itself and its people.

I remember how they insistently called a squadron of X-wings in TFA a "fleet". I genuinely don't think Abrams has an understanding of sci-fi and thought they were interchangeable.
Captain Teva
It annoys me how whenever they need to show an X-wing pilot, its always this guy and not, say, Wedge Antilles.

That was before the NJO novels. Especially in the Jedi Knight games, the New Republic was actually portrayed to be somewhat competent, sending liberation fleets to save some dirt-poor crystal miners and sending Jedi and special forces to thwart crime lords. Then the NJO novels came and the NR had to be retarded so that the Vong, who were taken down by a weakened New Republic and Empire, could become a threat.

Honestly you could do some fucking DARK shit in the KOTOR games that they would never dare to do nowadays.
If you tried to do that nowadays, you'd get called sexist and cancelled faster than you can say ''gamergate''.

Do you want Wedge Antilles in these shows?
Fuck no. Wedge Antilles was my favorite character from the Rogue Squadron games. They already screwed up his character in Rebels, them screwing him up even more would be disgusting.

Maybe once Star Wars becomes public domain, independent game devs and modders can make Star Wars games that isn't tied to the Mouse and its agenda.

Tim Cain was right. We're really at that point where people can't even implement some lines of code to do things that you technically should be able to do in a game because they're afraid of what their superiors would have to say. The same goes for Dragon Age: Veilguard's battle system and lack of ability to play as your companions.

I know this won't be a popular take, but ISDs and Venators were a bit like aviation battleships.

They had big guns, and could put up a fighter screen or bombing run.

Maybe not the best config for apocalyptic 40k style naval battles, but would work fine with smaller scale skirmishes.

Victory SD could always bring the really heavy gunline if needed, or later the Tectors.

But since many planets were small and less populated, a single ISD bullying them isn't nonsensical. Maybe its not the best configuration for formations of cruisers, but for smaller scale missions it isn't bad.

40k had one line ship with the same configuration, the Mars battlecruiser, with the admirals being too stupid to use it in fleet support roles.

Now that I think on it, the setup is not that dissimilar to a Strike cruiser, except those had notably heavy armour and op engines.

Or to the Tor's Harrower, which was a carrier armed with heavy gun lines. It could sit back and let out fighter craft while shooting at the enemy from afar.

Of course, Filoni was just lazy and at best wanted to use a maximum of 2 ship models.
