Perhaps it doesn't yet count because the State has not officially listed their witnesses, correct? (The states differ on when one is considered a witness. I cannot readily find anything about MN.) But consider what he's already said about CPS, the investigating officers, and now his former church (so, the pastor) and sister-in-law. They are all named in the investigating documents and could easily be witnesses for the prosecution.

This fact alone makes them susceptible to logical fallacies, and the cocaine intensifies and complicates the situation.

In her adult life, April most likely has never felt a sense of reward or satisfaction stemming from herself (setting a goal and achieving it, being able to provide for your loved ones, that feeling you have after a hard day's work, etc). She has to get these feelings from other people/external sources. Nick pairs himself with cocaine to provide this sense of reward for her. That's easy. You guys have seen it in the wild.

But there's another aspect to Nick and April's relationship that makes it "work". After all, you can pair most anything with cocaine for some powerful positive reinforcement.

April is lazy. Simple as. She has a history of becoming involved with shitheads who think they have it all figured out, who have an answer for everything. This gives her a promising illusion of security. If she just participates in Nick's life, he "solves" all of her problems! The cocaine serves two purposes here: to positively reinforce her behavior and to obfuscate the fact that the drug use is creating most of her imminent problems. I think she truly thinks Nick will get her out of the legal trouble she placed herself in. She'll never unfuck her life until she takes responsibility for herself, but that shit is hard.

I don't know about love. But I do know she trusts him. And that's just as stupid on her part.
