This could just be a nothing burger, noone seems too surprised but echo project is quite the insular in comparison to other furry groups and the smoke room is their only visual novel with active updates driving their patreon.

Come on, everyone knows that slavic artists are the only ones in the furry art work force with an actual degree in arts and total unawareness on how to value themselves. Hence you get a price range between 20 and 2000 dollars where even a 20 dollar sketch will end up looking better than a Disney/anime inspired drawing done by an American.

Thread slowed down, I see. While it was flooded I've got myself a question: does the fandom have a distinct founder/group of founders? I know it started in the late 70-s ~ early 80-s, but I couldn't find anything concrete.
What I found is: in 1976 a guy founded a fanzine named Vootie. From my limited research, it was doing basically the same shit other underground comics if the time did, but with anthropomorfic animals as a common aestetical choice. Certainly a foundational piece, but I feel like those weren't furries just yet. And from there a lot of possible focal points pop up.
So, anybody has any ideas? Maybe there are already some kind of an anthropological/culturological work on the topic so I wouldn't have to reinvent the wheel? I know about The Fandom, but it looks like it has a positive bias problem.

I liked a lot of Gallacci's stuff like Erma Felna and Birthright, and the general group (many of whom not what would be considered furries) that published stuff like Critters with Fantagraphics. For instance, you really wouldn't consider Freddy Milton of Gnuff (who also worked on the Danish version of Donald Duck who is much more popular than Mickey in Europe) a furry but he was also in Critters.

Even then there was definitely stuff you could consider fanservice but it wasn't primarily just porn.

Omaha the Cat Dancer was probably the first highly sexualized funny animal comic (unless you consider Bakshi's Fritz the Cat something of the sort). There still wasn't a culture of having stuff that was nothing but pure porn openly in the public, something the Burned Furs rebelled against (unfortunately unsuccessfully).
