I believe it's a reference to this video, and the drama surrounding this small arc. The first thirty seconds of the video explain why he thinks "the internet at large" is seeing him in a positive light.

It is no exaggeration to say these transient delusions of believing the whole internet, or a significant portion of the internet are now seeing Phil in a positive light have happened before. The length of this arc is just much longer than past arcs.

That sucks - that old one was a work of art.

I have a feeling the old thumbnail must've displeased one of the "supporting cast members" featured on it, who didn't want to be associated with Phil and thusly complained to Joon. Just a guess, though.

Compulsive. Phil lies about everything reflexively. He lies about little things that don't even matter.
I've watched Phil drop a pencil, say 'Oh, I dropped my pencil', then 15 seconds later while staring at his chat yell, "What pencil? What are you talking about? I didn't drop a pencil! THERE WAS NEVER A PENCIL!"

They're mainly people calling him a pedo defender. It just goes to show, never apologize online no matter who you are.

did you try sorting by newest first before you opened the replies? You might see the missing comments there if you do that. By default youtube is usually on top comments which hides some comments and replies if they have certain words,swearing,and other stuff

It’s really something that he can look at his current, KC-inflated view counts v detractors’ and spin up a whole narrative where not only is he widely appreciated but also the detractors are OVAH! Why not just go for the middle, Dave, and appreciate that you may have some new fans and new whales? Nah. All or nothing, reality is felted, it time redemption.

Damn it. If I had known I would have screenshoted it. I also left a nice reply to him. What a bitch. Most of the comments I remember where "Never happened" "Not true" "King of Hate" and a very few "you go king"

Edit: forget what I said. And too bad the original thumbnail was changed but thanks to PoP and TBS we still have it archived

I'm just going off of the screenshot posted right before it disappeared + DSP showing the comment on his stream still being there before Joon pinned it. It was 112 replies then when DSP checked it at the end of his stream it was at 98 replies then more replies started flooding in again.

big ups for the reestream brother

It depends on who answers that. A-logging retards like the Twitter sphere of Detractors will answer that it's because "Phil is literally evil and greedy and deserves to die for spending money irresponsibly and having a fat wife!!!!" but the more rational answer is Phil is like a car accident you can't look away from: you know the driver is intoxicated, you know they're heading for the freeway full of other cars, you know he's going to collide with them and cause major damage - but you can't avert your gaze from it no matter how hard you try - the chaos that follows is then just as captivating. He's a man incapable of stability or rationality, so he'll always be a living car crash, and will always provide that spectacle. He squanders every opportunity of goodwill that comes his way and somehow manages to tie himself in an increasing number of knots with his lies, ego and begging.

In a way the new thumb is just as bad. For one you can see gin and the bankruptcy form in the background and with those heads it just means that Phil will Always be his greatest enemy.
But I for one would have put his hitler youth picture into it (you know the one face he used for his Face reveal)

ah okay got it. Yeah it was strange because dsp's comment vanished for awhile and then suddenly reappeared and was pinned. I think if a lot of people report your comment, sometimes it goes into the "held for review" section of the channel owner's youtube studio. You won't get notified of this happening and you have to open the comments tab in studio and approve the comment so it's visible again. I check mine occasionally because sometimes I see peoples' comments on my videos held in there even though I have my comment moderation set to: "None, don't hold any comments for review".
