Concord - robots with pronouns

Nah Indie games last longer than a week, even the bad ones.

Lets face it, a game can be Woke, Ugly and Boring, and this was all three.

Overwatch worked because most people wanted to fuck the girls. Overwatch swam in Coomer Cash.

Concord did not have good gameplay to hook the pvp nerds.
Concord did not have bobs and vagene to hook the coomers.
Concord did have all the they-thems that would make normal people avoid it.

It had no redeeming feature. It failed even at T&A.

They called it Concord because it was a $200M con from the offset.

CNN plus lasted longer than this

Hell, I've had colds that lasted longer than Concord.

Good fucking riddance. Sony spent 8 years working on this turd chasing a genre that already been cornered two years before they even started working. I wouldn't feel the need to grave dance and sneed as much if not for their social media interactions. Calling your customers "talentless freaks" when they mildly criticize your shit product is always the wisest move.

I'll echo the sentiment others here have expressed that the gaming industry is reaching critical mass and bound for a hard crash, at least as far as development budget and scale goes. Having a game come out that loses you more money than it earns, regardless of if it's good or bad, is always a blow to a company. Production costs bankrupting a studio isn't an unheard of concept, but the industry titans pay good money for lip service from " gaming journalism" outlets to make you believe otherwise. If what I've heard about GTA's 1.5-2 billion dollar budget is true, I can foresee them losing money on it, even if it's well-received. The circumstances and hype around GTA6's release isn't the same as GTA5, and they won't have the same opportunity to double-dip between console generations. Just going by the math of $70 per copy, they have to sell just over 28.5 million copies to break even.

The product that kills studios isn't always a steaming turd, either. I personally enjoy the Thief series, but it's the series that ended up killing Looking Glass Studios. Not because they were bad games (on the contrary, Thief 1 and 2 were well-received), but the combination of the niche genre and the production costs. When Looking Glass packed up shop, some of the employees went on to Ion Storm to help work on Thief: Deadly Shadows. That game didn't do so hot, Ion Storm didn't last much longer and Thief was dead until Square Enix picked it back up and released another game that was just alright in 2014. Someone also got film rights for it in 2016, but it's been 8 years and no news on a movie, and I can say I'd exactly be enthusiastic to see a Thief film in current year.

If you want a film example, use Disney's 1985 adaption of The Black Cauldron. It has somewhat of a cult following nowadays, but it received mediocre review scores at the time of release. It was (I believe?) the first film Disney used CGI in and had a $44 million budget, which went on to only gross $21 million at the box office. May not sound like a lot of money in today's world, but it came close to ending Disney's animation studio. It didn't even get a VHS home release until 1997.

Hollow Knight? Really?
Yea it's subtle, but there's enough of it for pozzed spergs to complain that there's not enough of it. Also to be clear, I'm not trying to define "woke" as in "throwing tons of gay sex in your face" and claim that's what Hollow Knight or any of the other games mention are doing, but pointing out that with Hollow Knight specifically they made the conscious choice to add gay representation in a metroidvania style game about bugs where there is no reason to do so other than show they are ally's. Honestly though, when it's handled like Hollow Knight I could really care less as it doesn't impact the story, and you don't even need to ever run into it, but it still falls into the category of "woke", at least IMO.

A lot of stuff like that was probably under corporate mandate. This was supposed to be a gigantic hit, so they tried to make it as bland and inoffensive as possible.
He's not necessarily wrong though - someone in management made the decisions to request and accept what those developers put out, and management made the decision to hyperinflate the investment money going into that trash heap of a project. Modern video games aren't exactly passion projects like the old ones are.
The main thing that came from corporate mandate was probably the pricing scheme as a $40 retail product. But when it comes to design and artistic decisions, the devs themselves surely had a lot of agency, especially when they've only been under Sony ownership for less than a couple of years out of this very long development cycle. By the time of the acquisition, all of the characters we see were probably already concepted at least. And these characters are by no means "bland and inoffensive". They're downright repulsive to a wide audience, obviously designed to cater specifically to "queer" sensibilities rather than being a mere Guardians of the Galaxy ripoff.

Is it really so hard to believe that Firewalk Studios were not complicit in the making of DEI slop when they have the self-proclaimed "non-binary" "Professor" as their principal game designer?

Mario Kart 8 cost $20 million to make and sold just shy of 70 million copies
Animal cross took 8 years to make and has sold 78 million copies.

Concord took 8 years to make and cost 200 million and sold 25,000 copies.

The future of the console industry isn't in high-end hardware, it's in optimised low-end and mid-ranged hardware. Sony will be out of the console game next gen.

They are already making a Secret Level episode based on a game that's dead then?

I honestly hope they include it as part of the series. Sony deserves a good humiliation ritual, let the fans make memes and rub their nose in the metaphorical shit on the carpet. I'm only really interesting in seeing the WH40K and Armored Core episodes, and Mega Man to an extent to see if it ends up being another Ruby-Spears meme.
