spergin' as a sperg who isn't entirely sure meow is a sperg (meow/meowself are my pronouns), the diagnosis is dolled out quickly and easily for young weird boys. it's much harder for young girls to be referred to be evaluated. insurance will cover for childhood evaluations. insurances don't usually pay for adult evaluations though, so you gotta pay out of pocket, or find and independent provider. in my area it's ~1,000$ for a private psychologist. yarrow had some dosh on hand to get evaluated, or at least xyr parents did anyhow. but being diagnosed as an autismo is a guaranteed tugboat

It's entirely common for people to self-dx via the Internets and then shop around until they find a doctor who will do it officially. I lurk in some ADHD spaces and people will post about how frustrated they are that their doctor won't diagnose them with ADHD, and other posters will chime in with advice on how to shop around or convince a doctor that they have it. Sometimes it's just for Shiny Diagnosis Badge purposes, but often it's for SSDI or "job accommodation" purposes (aka trying to game the system rather than grow the fuck up and figure your shit out).

Zak Bagans himself is a huge grifter and generally looked down upon in the paranormal community. He's known for staging evidence and has been caught doing so. I used to work at one of the places that's been on the show, and while I never got to meet him (he was before my time), my coworkers did. One of the things that I've heard was that he's not allowed back on the property, not even for private investigations. I've not actually watched the episodes for myself, but now I'm tempted to go through them with a fine tooth comb and see what can be debunked.

If Bagans is involved with anything, don't trust it. He's got a shitty reputation for a reason. The people who own these haunted locations have grapevine all their own, and that's in addition to the super niche community. So if you're a cunt in one spot, you're likely not going to get approved to film in others. Any amount of credibility is key, and once you lose that, there's no getting it back. Just look at the recent drama with the Conjuring House, whose owner completely shit the bed on social media. She then blamed her behavior on the ghosts, whom she claimed to be speaking for. Seems to be a reoccurring theme, huh?

More than likely, the Indiana house was the best he could get. It was probably also dirt cheap to get access to film there, if he had to pay anything at all. A lot of locations that double as private residences (like the Conjuring House) sometimes charge more than even the larger, more historic places. Only instead of going into renovations or something, it goes straight into their pocket.

Also note: Zak attempted to turn the Labianca murder house into a sideshow act like the Indiana demon house, but ended up just selling the house when he failed to do so. My tinfoil theory is that the Indiana house was likely demolished so others couldn't go to investigate, which would inevitably reveal the hoax and spread word through the community. Zak seems desperate for approval and any shred of credibility he can grift his way back into.

The demon house itself is a creepy enough story on its own, sure. But there's not a single credible part to it. At the time, the family was behind on rent or lease or whatever, and they tried blaming demons to get out of having to make payments. The haunting was also blamed for the kids' irregular school attendance, which was a thing even before the haunting. Noticing a pattern?

I feel like I've gotten a little too autistic in this post, but ghost hunting is inherently an autistic hobby. It can also be the biggest predatory crock of shit grift you can imagine.

Tldr: Zak is a shitty scammer, Staph is retarded enough to believe him, the only thing demonic in Gary Indiana is what's in the water, and I need a better hobby.

I wasn't aware of any of this, but that's a fun ending. Usually in ghost stories and movies, the house hangs out there, waiting to lure in the next generation, but my experience with tabletop RPGs is that most people would prefer dynamite. It's easier in recent years, yes. Most people are probably better off finding someone who specializes in autism for a diagnosis, but even some of them are a bit too eager. That said, I honestly don't totally doubt that Staph is somewhere on the spectrum, she seems pretty textbook for women with autism.
