Where do they get this money.
From other departments. My school would give the sports teams anything they could ever desire; new uniforms, renovated locker rooms, dedicated buses with amenities, etc. Meanwhile, the rest of the school was taking tests on pink or yellow paper because we ran out of white.

WINDER, Ga. - Hundreds of law enforcement officers have swarmed Apalachee High School in Barrow County after a shooting injured multiple people.
With roads blocked up to a mile away, panicked parents set out on foot running to the school to check on their kids.
An active shooting was reported at 10:23 a.m., the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office said, and officers and medical personnel from multiple agencies were sent.
One suspect was in custody and casualties were reported as of noon, according to the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Casualties could mean either injuries or deaths.

Dozens of ambulances and officers were on the ground at the nearly 2,000-student school, alongside medic helicopters.

CNN reported that a hospital in Winder was receiving patients with gunshot wounds.
At least one person was loaded into the helicopter on a stretcher around 11:20 a.m. The helicopter flew to Grady Memorial Hospital, a Level 1 trauma center.
Then a new helicopter arrived around 12:10 p.m.

At least eight ground ambulances, including ones from other counties, responded, with several leaving the school with lights and sirens on.
A heavily armed group of law enforcement officers were seen in formation entering the building, but they hadn’t come out as of noon.
The FBI was among the agencies on the scene along with hundreds of law enforcement vehicles from other agencies, including the Georgia State Patrol. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it was involved, as well.
“We urge anyone near the area to stay clear while authorities investigate,” GBI said.

School and surroundings

The school was placed on a hard lockdown and students were evacuated, but by 11:45 a.m., parents were being allowed to come and pick up their children, who were taken to a stadium. Buses were being run for the students, as well.
Also, several officers sped away around that time.

“I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state,” Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said in a statement.
“We will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners as we gather information and further respond to this situation,” Kemp added.

“FBI Atlanta is aware of the current situation at Apalachee High School,” Tony Thomas, FBI Atlanta spokesperson said. “Our agents are on scene coordinating with and supporting local law enforcement.”
Barrow County is about 40 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Booster clubs in some parts of the country go crazy over football. Probably a few local business owners have a kid in or going to go to the school, and they’re happy to pitch in to help little Johnny live his quarterback dreams, with the bonus of maybe getting to advertise somewhere on the stadium.
Kiwifarms once again being quicker on the trigger (pun intended) than most actual news organizations. This is like the 4th time I've seen an ongoing incident be here before I see it anywhere else.
I saw a blurb with no details and jumped on right away.

Put some fucking security in schools, faggots.
I don’t know about Georgia/that county/that specific town/school district but a lot of school districts have their own police force nowadays. Like actual sworn law enforcement officers who carry guns and have the legal authority to arrest+detain people.

In my area however, the “school resource officers” are usually older (and sometimes overweight) guys who are 5-10 years away from retiring on their pension with the City PD, so they take that job to coast out that last 5-10 years until they can retire. I guess for a time they figured that the most they’ll ever have to do is break up fistfights or participate in drug arrests/sweeps. After the last few years though I’m not sure if they’re starting to realize they’re expected to be the “first responders” in a school shooting situation like this.

tl;dr: I know some school districts have actual police departments but some of those officers are just 55-60 year olds killing time until they retire
