It's pretty weird (even for phil) that he truly seems to believe that as long as he provides you with some plight chasing background details on why he said or did dumb shit of your choice here that it should automatically act as his get out of jail free card. 15 + years of not figuring out that just because he accepts his own excuses in the moment doesn't mean that the rest of the world has to. It's amazing throughout the whole doc reaction hearing just how bad his mentality is with finances. Because he wasn't blowing everything on credit, because the gravy train kept coming in, because he was never in the red, it was all ok to blow literal thousands of dollars on overpriced shit and plastic gamer junk and lease a BMW. It's fucking baffling he actually admits to making 170k in one year conservatively and that he was making roughly that for a few years prior and after yet is still in the situation he is in today. It's even more baffling he thought it was completely normal to admit that he spent upwards of 700 dollars on statues and gamer blankets yet acts smugly about how Project 7 made no money.

This is going into semantics, but if Project 7 was such a passion project for Dave, he would have put his own money into it and paid people out of his own pocket. But he was such a greedy narc fuck he thought spending thousands on props he'd never use or use once is better than paying the people involved. But no, they're all greedy assholes who never spoke up, as if it's not an unspoken rule you pay people for their work.

I remember when he used to talk about his debt problems, he would never acknowledge that he was in debt because he made bad financial decisions. He always acted like him being in debt was something that just happened ("It's not my fault, it's not your fault!")
