Concord - robots with pronouns

Oh wow, two damn weeks. That's actually impressive. That gotta be some kind of record.

Not surprised although I imagined it'd be like a year before total Concord death. Instead, it's a fortnight. Amazing.

But really, the writing was on the wall; it's a shitty DEI game with unappealing character design. Even without the DEI, the look of the game was just really ugly (the furry bait girl looked like a damn gremlin, the weird and actually gross-looking bubble suit they/them night gaunt or Kamala Kahn's obese brother with Downs or that other indistinct ambiguous not-white dude with the retarded helmet)

Or the pronoun robot that looks like a Bluetooth speaker from JVC with legs.

Say what you will about Overwatch but its character designs are colorful and eye-catching. Even their ugly they/them with the bucktooth. Shit's popping visually, even if there's DEI vomit all over it. It's not always pretty but there's a look there.

I didn't play but the game was 40 bucks which couldn't have helped in an era where live service jewing is heavily frowned upon, especially with microtransactions.
 
They spent about 5.5k per each customer, that is a level of catastrophic failure that can't be memory holed by the usual suspects.
Granted it failed for being a decade out of date and having no redeeming qualities but the DEI design philosophy and pronouns in bio bullshit made this pile of shit stink so bad that they SPENT OVER 135 DOLLARS FOR EACH DOLLAR THEY MADE!

I remember the 7th gen being pretty brutal. Sonic the Hedgehog, Lair, Haze, Too Human, Brink, Aliens Colonial Marines etc.

But most of those games were single player focused, and people still bought physical copies. These online service games rely so much on internet perception and a steady stream of revenue over years.

So the flops are so more visible and catastrophic than they were before.
7th gen had some of the funniest flops towards the tail end of it. Then it became the norm with 8th gen.

Maybe its just me but does anyone else think that Concord should be open sourced? I mean you made the code, youre dumping it after hours of development and all of those characters, assets, and the engine itself are going to the wayside never to be used again.
What would be their incentive to do that, though?

This made me think of Paragon, a multiplayer game that was also shut down with full refunds being offered to players. It was developed by Epic Games on their own Unreal Engine. After shutdown, the assets were made free-to-use, but I mention this because the assets were specifically made accessible via the Unreal Engine Marketplace. So while that decision would garner them some good will (especially important at the time due to Fortnite rising in popularity), it also served to direct Paragon fans and game developers towards using the Unreal Engine.

Meanwhile, what use is good will to Firewalk Studios once all of their employees have been laid off? And it's not like they can funnel their tiny playerbase into something else, because Firewalk Studios has nothing else.

I'm not going to pretend to know anything about games development or open source software, but is there not a possibility of Concord's engine and all of its assets being sold to another company and then used as a foundation to create something new and unique? Surely that would be a more viable option than making it available to everyone for free?
 
I think some people doesn't understand, some DEI/woke shit won't singlehandedly kill the game. Game won't fail if you put some faggot or tranny on it.

Problem with this game, is that this game is infected with DEI to the point it affect every single thing about the game. Mainly character design. Those hideous creatures is designed for Tumblr faggots. As much as i hate alphabet faggots, not all of them like Tumblr Faggots. Some alphabets retards still like visually appealing/traditionally attractive characters. No one cares tracer is faggot, what everyone care is how good looking she's. Overwatch/Apex or other goyslop has pronoun or other DEI bullshit, but their character design is still good enough for majority of people.

At the time of the game’s death knell, you all nearly had more posts here than the game had peak players.

Concurring with the crowd that the woke technically wasn’t what killed the game. Or at least, what was put in the game itself wasn’t it.

This game’s issues reek of a small group of lead devs who refused to accept feedback or criticism, and shaped their whole company culture around appeasing them. Getting yes-men and intimidating everyone else into staying quiet. There is nothing about that trait that makes it unique to woke developers. People can and do just have god complexes at times, and when one of those is somewhere they shouldn’t be, it can cause a lot of problems.

But while there is nothing unique about it, that doesn’t mean they aren’t involved. Political causes in general go along with this sort of personality like throwing oil on an electrical fire. Because it allows them to mask their rampant egomania by framing their critics as being SOLELY politically motivated. Neutral and even supportive parties on the political matter who voice criticism due to the game’s quality are called whatever the fashionable term for bad person is, and shunted out the door.

This is then worsened by the nature of a lot of woke ideology, particularly the social hierarchy based on diversity points, which provides additional masking on a situational basis. This also means that the people who exploit it most heavily are the people at the top of that hierarchy, which usually means hitting several checkboxes.

And of course, a lot of woke ideology is subversive beyond sense. Deliberate uglification is one key example. And the fact that the most diverse characters are also often the most “subversively designed” means that the Stale Pale Males end up the best-looking characters because they’re the only ones the devs don’t actively try to ruin.

So did wokeness kill the game? No, but actually yes. Because it’s not that the choices in the game were woke. It’s that wokeness allowed someone to insist everyone call them Professor and beat down anyone who’d stop them from ruining the game.
