So what is the story with the father? Single father. Got custody of the kid. Mother was a drug addict. At minimum the father made poor choices in whom to fuck. The aunt initially believed the junkie mother that he was physically abusive but later changed her mind. Was he a fuck up too? Or was he just barely getting by?

The father told the FBI that he had his hunting guns locked up an inaccessible to the kid. So I take from that the kid was living with the father at the time, and the father got the visit.

The father did have the guns locked up. However just about every kid learns to pick the locks of something they really want. Say a parent locked up the plug for the TV, or the tool box.

I agree CPS can be abusive and ruinous to family life. But it is instances like these, I see the stalinist side of the argument-bad behaviors are passed down and impressionable youth are simply not mentally hardy enough to endure dysfunctional home environments on average.

Perhaps the state's remit should be expanded and instances like this should result in removal and replacement.

The time for sympathy was before he walked into the school and killed four completely innocent people.
Is it a tragedy that kids grow up in awful conditions? Yes it is. Loads of sympathy for those kids, they need so much more help than they get. But the second you start shooting up a school you cross a line from victim to aggressor and at that point you've lost any right to sympathy.
What should he have done? There’s no zero sum game here, there’s no ‘just play the right moves and it’s all great.’ The kid was destined for a bad life and THAT is what should give society pause. We should be helping these kids BEFORE they do bad things. Once he wrecked four innocent families he deserves to be put down.
Compassion is for the innocent. Some things are unforgivable.

It's up to the DA's office, but ultimately, the judge will decide the appropriate sentencing after the trial if he's convicted. The scope of the crime is quite large and terrible, beyond what a child would usually do, so I can see why they wouldn't charge him as a minor. With his background, though, and everything going on with the mother, hopefully, he'll get a fair shake and some help. Something has to happen, though; he can't just skate. He motherfucked countless lives yesterday.

Colleges but I think you are getting the correlation wrong... kids in private schools are from a better stock on average and people of a better stock tend to care more about their kids education. It´s not the fact they care that differentiate them in fitness from pill popping trash, but their stock.

Not all CPS interventions are bad. Take a look at Nick Rekieta. The kids were temporarily placed with relatives.

Nick & Kayla are now required to submit to random drug and alcohol testing. Maybe they cheat the system. But the amount of cheating they do has to be minimal and they have to keep on their toes and practice restraint. The kids are now back with Nick & Kayla. I would call that a success. Nick & Kayla may not be perfect. But at least they are sober now.
