Many of the men around that time were survivors of what was likely the most brutal war in human history, during a time when PTSD symptoms weren't taken seriously at all. The fact that this isn't ever brought up when talking about the motivations behind prohibition is laughable.

Us Americans barely even participated in WWI, there’s no way we were as merked by the war as the European powers. Sure there may have some WWI U.S soldiers with shell shock, but not nearly enough to bring about an alcoholic epidemic that would justify Prohibition. Prohibition was the work of female moralizers just like the PMRC and parental advisory labels were the work of female moralizers like Tipper Gore.
