Dude NATO has been encircling Russia for decades. It doesn't really have anything to do with Russia planning to invade that country or not. There was an agreement made when NATO was formed and not agreement was violated. I don't really care if you're drinking the Kool-Aid, which you clearly are, even if you're not swigging the whole glass. The facts of the matter is that NATO is not functioning the way it was originally purported to be. And NATO is not a good thing in the modern day. The damage that it is done since the collapse of the Soviet Union is almost unqualifiable. It's not bog standard isolationism to say we shouldn't give a fuck about what happens in some second world shithole, but if you are going to be honest this is in large part in NATO's fault. The geopolitics of Russia are such that militarily it has very few options once certain places are not neutral ground anymore. I would suggest looking into the geography of Russia and how it has related to the political machinations of the leaders of that country for centuries. I wouldn't call Russia's actions self-defense because they weren't, but they are logical actions if you take a look at the entire scenario. Which means you're going to have to look at things on a bigger scale than what you've been typically most likely used to if you're referring to neutrality in the Ukraine situation as bog standard isolationism.

No, its Putin's fault for not realizing the world has moved on, and the Russian Empire has gone the same way as the British and French ones. It had its zenith due to colonialism and Imperial expansion, but the metropole could not hold and the various nationalities that made it up decided they didn't want to run by their foreign conquerors anymore. Thus went everyone from the Turkmens and Uzbeks to the Estonians and Ukrainians.

All of which would have been acceptable had Putin kept his invasion outside of territories that were traditionally part of the Polish Kingdom and the Austrian Empire. But that is not what he did. He didn't just try and retake the Russian side of Ukraine. He went for the European side as well, claiming it as all part of his reborn Russian empire, and based upon a tortured reading of history at best as the sole casus belli. Perhaps an argument could have been made with reuniting with the Russian speaking East, even if that argument raises "interesting" questions about the fate of the Baltic States. But he also went for the part of Ukraine that is not Russian speaking and was historically part of Europe up until the end of the 19th century, never mind the 11th.

Maybe Lauren Chen should not have been taking money from the FSB then. Its not a good thing all of Alt Media is getting slimed by this, but this is what happens when you overdose on red pills and start to conflate your government as the enemy to the point you start viewing your country itself as the enemy too. The Ukraine War is instructive on this simply due to how virulently people who swear up and down they are "real, patriotic Americans who love their country but hate their Government" are willing to wave the flag, celebrate their rights, guns and freedom and shit, but also pray every day that the USA get's absolutely felted by a corrupt foreign oligarchy out to reimpose some neo-colonialist vision based on revanchist foreign jingoism.

There was no agreement.
And It was not when NATO formed but as the USSR was about to collapse, there was a verbal assurance from a US diplomat to Soviet Leadership that the Americans would not take advantage of the Chaos and risk provoking a confrontation with the Russian Generals. The assurance given was that the US would not set up any permanent bases in any country that didn't already have them (And that's the USA, not NATO) and the USSR wouldn't view any other new base construction or force repositioning as a threat. This was essentially the USSR conceding that the US would be allowed to expand their presence into a soon-to-be reunited Germany with no contest from the Soviets so long as they didn't immediately try to set up bases in Poland. The US Diplomat agreed that in the wake of the USSR breaking up that would cause understandable concern with the Russians and the US wouldn't make any immediate moves in that direction while everything was still in full Chaos.

NATO was never mentioned, only the US.
There was also no end date, which would only be an agreement entered into by a moron.

And to give you an idea of what sort concern this was for the Russians, the US and the Russians were negotiating the Conventional Forces in Europe treaty, a treaty to limit the forces that NATO-nations and the USSR would be able to have in theater to prevent a build up. The topic of NATO membership, new NATO bases, or even new US bases, was never brought up by the Russians negotiating the treaty.

This is a non-issue that is misconstrued by the American Bad team while ignoring all the ACTUAL treaties the Soviets-cum-Russians willfully and openly violated.
