In February of 2014, in a beginner's class of pedagogical sciences at Humboldt University (HU) Berlin (Germany), a group of students began drawing negative attention, and by that I mean them disrupting the professor's teaching as best as they could. E.g. they found it completely inacceptable that the poor scientist quoted thinkers of times past (Plato, Rousseau...) who, according to them, showed signs of white privilege, cisheterosexism, adultism, ableism and Eurocentrism in their writings. Also, the lack of black scholars among the recommended reading was a point of great contention from them. The professor at first explained timidly that he would invite them to a discussion about these issues after lecture, but they were not to be placated: Since the professor knew more than them, he obviously had education-privilege which ruled out any discussion. Instead, they resorted to disturbing the lecture loudly by clapping and cheering, which prompted a fellow student to summon the police, because he needed the credits from the lecture for his degree.

Naturally, this led to some investigation as to the nature and motive of the disruptive students. Soon, it was discovered that at HU there was a large group of SJWs which had germinated around one Professx Lann Hornscheidt.

Lann Hornscheidt, originally Antje Hornscheidt, taught Scandinavian languages and Gender Studies at HU. One of her main projects consisted of redesigning language and spelling as to accommodate the needs of people who do not identify as male or female, such as herself.
Now, when writing "her" and "herself", I'm misgendering Lann, as she would prefer to be referred to as "x" -- where the "x" is intended to cross out gender --, as in "One of x main projects...", but for reasons of legibility, I'm not going to do this. Sorry, Lann.

Lann's ideas were wrapped up in the brochure "Feministisch Sprachhandeln [Feminist language activism] -- What to do?". (This work can be read online, but the server seems to be down.) In it, Lann suggests among others:

  • The above-mentioned "x-spelling", as in Professx, Studierx, Latinx, etc.
  • The "a-spelling", which replaces the masculine-looking "-er" ending of many German words (e.g. Computer, Türöffner [electric strike], Mitarbeiter [coworker]) by the feminine-looking "-a", which gives a similar pronunciation while looking retarded; e.g. "Unsa Lautsprecha ist permanent of Demos unterwegs." = Oua loudspeaka is permanently on the road at rallies.
Remark: German language is far more gender-conscious than English, as it genders not only persons, but also jobs, titles and adjectives.
"Eine intelligente Studentin" = an intelligent female (university) student.
"Ein intelligenter Student" = an intelligent male (university) student.
Hornscheidteese turns this into:
"Einx intelligentx Studierx" = an intelligent genderless student.

Team Hornscheidt have also produced a children's picture book which I have mentioned in another thread by the title of "Unsa Haus" (Engl. "Oua House", but the translation looks more normal: "Our House").

This opus tries to teach children with horrible MS Paint art that it is great if a boy wants to wear pink dresses and be a ballet dancer or if a girl wants to be a truck driver. The stories are tedious and dumb, and the art makes some of the people in the DA thread look like Leonardo, Bruegel, Goya, Kandinsky and Wifredo Lam rolled into one in comparison.

In order to publish it, Team Hornscheidt founded their own publishing company, because all the established children's book publishers were cishet sexist shitlords (read: didn't like the manuscript).

Another children's book published by them is a science fiction story: "Spaceship Cosinus -- the ship's computer is fed up" which somehow teaches about cooperation. There are also some books for "queer"/trans adults.

A seperate project started by Team Hornscheidt is a kind of acitivist group calling themselves "Xart Splitta" ("Splitta" probably means "Splitter" = sliver, or maybe "splitter" as in English: someone or something that splits, "Xart" may refer to the Professx spelling).

Note the spelling "Kalända" in the right hand column, which means "Kalender" (calendar).

Here, we find among others a list of ideas on how to intervene against cishet sexist shitlords:

  • think up_design_put up new sign/new inscription for a street name or a monument which doesn't exist or for a monument which is problematic.
  • create good images for yourself, design_print posters, think up and draw comics, paste collages and give them away as gifts, modify postcards or redesign them, cut/modify slogans and paste them over your bed_on your calenda_next to the wardrobe_put them in your trouser pocket.
  • create buttons, paint t-shirts, design lamp posts and spray on sidewalks
  • design sew-on patches and distribute them, at parties, in your friendx circle.

  • give myself a new name, pronounce new pronouns and release them into the world, think up new words and share them.

  • And then even more permanently possible intervention activities in many different situations: write over outrageous things in menus, paint_paste over toilet graffiti, remove_paste over stickers_posters_advertising, get up and leave in discriminating situations, close doors, switch off radios and TV sets, switch off the music at a party, throw packages of tea or coffee into the trash, open salt dispenser intentionally, redesign beermats, stick gum on the chairs of sexist shitlords, turn over book covers, make sentences in novels unreadable, tear pages out of books, remove signs/tags from clothing, put products in grocery shops behind others and thus make them invisible, remove the German national flag from the cityscape, do not visit pubs with genderist_racist_menus_toilet politics_exploitational work conditions, think about where and from whxm to shop, greet other trans_x_ing persons on the street when going for a walk, write support sms, ask when noticing something, be alert in public spaces...

I somehow feel that some of these actions would be A.) illegal; B.) counter-productive for making a lot of friends.

And friends Team Hornscheidt didn't make. One Prof. Dr. Münkler, a political scientist, got on their bad boy list because he was mildly conservative and had a sometimes provoking sense of humor. Thus, the webpage "Münklerwatch" was initiated which lists quotes from Münkler taken out of context in order to paint him as a Nazi.

Huh. It's always amusing to see foreign language lolcows, if only because it brings me out of my privileged position of anglocentrism.

But... I have to wonder, is her little group still producing tasty content and salt? Any obscure documents of hers on 'powa' and stuff like that? Otherwise, I don't see the point of a specific thread. Your post was pretty damn thorough in dissecting her, as far as I can tell.

Her profile page on the uni's website has abitchy little snippet about sending her hatemail. Apparently she has set up an address just for 'haters', i.e. people who dare express irritation at her.
Looks very professional indeed.

So basically she wants a hugbox and asks people not to send her criticisms in the most condescending manner possible. What would be merely insufferable if she was just a tumblrine sounds downright unprofessional coming from someone who wants to be taken seeriously as an academic.


Then again, as the bolded part states, she is thankfully no longer lecturing at Humboldt.

Ever since hearing about this lady I've been waiting for someone to write up an OP about her, and this did not disappoint.

The last time I heard someone this dumb, they were claiming that the sinking of the Titanic was a deliberate act of male privilege, but this has that beaten by a mile. Hopefully her fade from the spotlight won't be accompanied by deleting all the evidence of her dumbfuckery.
