They are probably upset because the high score puts Astrobot 3 points behind some of the Mario games as the highest rated platformers. Spawnwave mentioned it this morning.

The three highest rated platformers at a 97 Metacritic score are Mario Odyssey, Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2. The 94 Astrobot got puts it in 4th place on the ranking of platformers.

All these scores are done by journalists so normally people should take them with a grain of salt but console waring is eternal.

You should absolutely disregard metacritic.

Personally I like to read Steam user reviews to decide if a game is worth purchasing. It's not an option for console exclusives but covers maybe 95% of releases.

Astro Bot is an amazing game that was put together with love and passion for video games, and it's made by a Japanese company? Sony is going to close this studio as soon as possible. Not enough modern day slop to make money. And not compliant with whatever the insane asylum in California deems acceptable for modern audiences.

Astrobot is a weird character/universe and as one disgruntled poster upthread said it is very corporatist and some of it's charm is obviously dependent on how much nostalgia the individual playing has for playstation as a whole. That being said the VR Astrobot game was the best game for the ill-fated psvr and this new one is by far the best game for the ps5. As the previous poster said, this is such a labor of love and effort that only the most cynical cynics among us wouldn't feel at least a tiny bit of mirth while playing.

I don't know if AstroBot is the worst game ever made, but the desperation certainly is palpable. It's up there with Nintendo fanboys celebrating the release of Earthbound's ROM on the Wii U Virtual Console, because there was absolutely nothing else coming out at the time.

AstroBot looks like a tech demo game that anyone only cares about for the first few months of the console's life, but it's coming out close to the four-year anniversary of the console. It's unappealing, ugly, and no one is going to buy a PS5 for this game.

Good exclusives have always sold consoles in the past. This isn't going to sell consoles. Five hundred and sixty bucks for this? Really?

It also doesn't help that The PS5 is shipped with Astro's Playroom, which doesn't realy help much becuase now you're just buying a PS5 for two Astro Bot games and not much else (even if you ignore the fact that turbonerds managed to get Soyderman 2 on PC through the leaks)

meanwhile the first 15 minutes of gameplay is more or less the same thing as the PS4 game minus VR.
I think Schreier is just taking the piss out of the people who put blame on wokeness killing Concord.

Remember that the PS5 Pro is right around the corner and I don't picture that piece of plastic having a price tag lower than $600.

My God, if the price hikes of the regular model also influence the Pro model and that thing releases at $700 I'm going to laugh my ass off.
