Do any avatars on KF employ steganography to hide data?

Steganography is the act of hiding data within data to avoid detection. You could hide a word document in a word document for example and the intended recipient could decode the file to get the hidden information.

Logic would follow that you can hide an image within a image.

Do you think any avatars have hidden images in them?

I actually wondered about this too...
It's pretty crazy to think about. Unless you're inspecting everything you have no idea what you might have missed.

Any image you look at could have hidden data, so could every file. Hidden data could be on your PC right now and there'd be no way to know.

Really get's the noggin joggin'

I guess there's really only that many cli tools or python scripts floating around for steganography embedding. I guess, even with script kiddie skillz, you could scrape the farms for all avatars and just scan them for the usual encodes.

Would be semi-trivial for dear sneeder to embed near invisible data into the forum so that if one of his enemies posts a screenshot from the forum he'd be able to track the username and IP.

Sites have done this using combinations of zero width spaces to tell when something was illegally copied. It's trivial to do and very effective for basic finger printing.
