Not to defend the guy but he actually is a game developer unlike the other cow we have who used to work at Blizzard he's actually one of the original lead guys on World of Warcraft which is impressive.
The man who created all of the great games from bull fog however has done the same thing that he has gone completely downhill and is now a hopeless hack of a person

He reminds me a lot of John Romero, really. He was attached to a big name back in the day and likely has legitimately great capabilities when on a team that lets him play to his strengths. However, he's no good on his own because his ego inevitably cripples him. So, he continues coasting by grifting off name recognition while producing either a humiliating failure (Daikatana in Romero's case, Firefall for Kern) or a thoroughly unremarkable product that makes almost no waves when, or if, it's ever actually completed(EM8ER for Kern, and Empire of Sin for Romero).
The difference between the two is Romero was actually able to put his ego aside for five minutes and produce Sigil. Despite being little more than a megawad with a soundtrack, it was by all accounts well received and even got included in Bethesda's latest Doom/Doom II rerelease. Kern OTOH likely can never work with a team of industry professionals because his behavior has made him walking bad PR for any company that might otherwise hire him for a project. Hell, even if he did get a professional gig again he'd likely fuck it up by demanding to be given a bigger role than he's capable of effectively handling.

By the way, for an old man, Kern must be a blowjob master. Sucked up UE so much that he now believes Kern really intends to deliver his game.
Upper Echelon also says it's wrong to mix up family matters with criticism of the game or how he's a deadbeat dad, but ignores that Kern used the name of his elderly father to register his company because he owes hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes and the government will seize his property to pay the debt if he ever acquires anything of value.

Initially I was on Upper Echelon's side. Both in thinking and in wanting the game to be completed. But a soon as I saw Grummz brought not just family but his father into his scam. A guy who probably doesn't even know what Grummz did. Dragging him into shit that doesn't involve him when at his age he should be taken care of.

Depends what was done.
If Kern moved assets into the father's name to retain the use of said assets while appearing penniless on paper, that is tax evasion and the IRS will kick his arse for trying it. (It's also retarded because he'll get caught in even the most perfunctory tax audit)
On the other hand, should he have been bankrupted by the taxes and his father then started the company for him to work at, there is nothing wrong with it.
There wasn't anything about bankruptcy in the thread, so I doubt the second option applies. Unrehabilitated bankrupts also can't be members of a company's board (unless this is allowed in the USA).
You ask me, he's probably evading tax.
What did he do to get him such a large tax assessment, by the way?
PS: The Ember "gameplay" Upper Echelon showed in his video looks like complete dogshit, especially given the amount of time and money Kern has had to work with. (On the other hand, this is Kern the Bus Dude we're talking about - maybe there's an "Ember Jet" standing around in a hangar somewhere being customised for planned game exhibitions at future air shows).
