I think you actually make a really good point. Age ratings are very important, especially as you get older and you have your own kids and you have nieces and nephews to deal with. There is a MASSIVE difference between Dragon Ball Z, which even I watched as a spastic elementary schooler on 4kids and honestly wouldn't have a problem showing to my nephews as long as their parents were chill with it, and some coomer bullshit anime which is rated TV-MA/TV-14 and only appeals to... one demographic. I've often found the retards age rate anime are retarded. Either its too high or too low depending on the series. There needs to be people that actually care about anime to rate it, and don't just see it as a random chinese cartoon that they just rubber stamp with a age rating.

I mean BA treat age as suggestion because design wise a lot them dosent look like the assigned ages. For example there is both Asuna(17) and Karin(16) which get a lot of fan arts, I would say it end up like how Jotaro dosent look like a 17 either
