I didn't intend to derail with my return, sorry.
Back on topic, I learned a bit more about backyard breeding in my time away. I'll have to make a better write up soon when I have time, but I didn't realize how popular "fluffy Frenchies" are, and they're frequently merle (or double merle.) They're sold for a shit ton of money despite the fact that they're not even French Bulldogs in terms of breed standard, similar to the "doodle" breeding that's so popular right now.
"Fluffy" French Bulldogs are either basically mutants bred on purpose, or are outcrossed with the Pekingese or long haired Chihuahua. Breeders prefer to claim that they magically came across a dog that had both the "fluffy" gene (a mutation or combination of mutations) AND a gene that gave them a merle coat and blue eyes.
If you know anything about merle genes in dogs, you'll know this is a gene to be extremely careful with. This mutation frequently causes lifelong eye issues, deafness, skin conditions, among other things. French Bulldogs are already genetic nightmares, mostly due to the breeding for aesthetics and profit, and have a laundry list of life-ruining medical problems inherent to the breed. Adding in genetic mutations like the merle gene or the long hair gene quite literally adds mutations to a genetic mutant, and then people can sell them for easily over $10,000.
This sums it up well. She was a strong voice over in BP and I tended to agree with her opinions on animals too, her contrasting opinions to the status quo on KF were also entertaining to me.she was the forum's best female radfem sperg
