Nick's not in the same league as celebrities who can pay top dollar to have doctors to supply them with prescriptions illegally. The way a lot of regular people get hold of prescription medications illegally is buying them from people who have legitimate prescriptions or more recently from sketchy online vendors.

Cocaine for medical use is not in powdered form. If he's got cocaine powder, he didn't get it on prescription or diverted from medical supply.

nowadays you can get regular prescriptions online legally very easily on telehealth sites of varying degrees of sketchiness. But the only controlled substance that I've seen offered on the legal sites is buprenorphine which Nick probably isn't interested in. It would be funny though, since you can get it prescribed for kratom addiction, he could get legal opioids without even having to admit to illegal drug use!

The black market sites are all really sketch nowadays and I don't know of anyone who uses them anymore. It used to be pretty common but I think it was cracked down on.

I have mixed feelings about Carlin. He definitely became preachy, dark, and nihilistic later in his career, and he paved the way for many comics who get applause instead of laughter. And it's not that surprising when you consider his upbringing - his father was an alcoholic wife-beater (i.e. he took Irish culture very seriously), and he was basically raised by his mother from an early age. Daddy issues and/or the lack of a strong positive male role model is a fairly bog-standard "early life" for leftists.

Also, long-term use of benzos (xanax, ativan, etc) can bork your dopamine production and cause worse depression. Then you're taking antidepressants to counteract the benzos and as they say in the medical profession, you're shit's all fucked up.
